Happy New Year from your Co-Presidents Celeste and Leone

We have been co-presidents for two years, and are pleased to continue our positions into 2016-17.  As we ring in the New Year, Leone and I can look back on the last two years to see all that has been accomplished. Surface Art Association has had fabulous workshops and speakers, initiated field trips on our “off months,” and encouraged comradery among our membership.
We have an energetic board slated for the SAA.  First I want to applaud Mary Beth Schwartzenberger for wearing so many hats.  She has provided us with excellent programs and workshops.  We have had Surface Artists come from out of town to expand our knowledge, trends, and new techniques and materials.  We have added a meet the artist night with dinner at a member’s home.  We all thank Diana Shore and Bee Colman for hosting Emily Dvorin and Caroline Dahl.  All workshop attendees are invited to these special events.  Cicely Gilman has spear headed the new field trips committee.  We went to see the Silk Road Exhibit at the Natural History Museum, a show at American Jewish University, and a show at the Brea Museum, in Brea.  Not only did we get to see these exhibits, but we were able to share them together, analyze what we saw, pick apart techniques, as well as get to know each other outside of our regular meetings.  A special thank you goes out to Diana Shore, Sandy Sigal and Jeri Siegel for bringing refreshments to all our meetings.
We thank Meredith Strauss for volunteering her home for our annual Holiday Party.  Among our festivities and gift exchange, we have installed our new board members for 2016-2017.
