KEY Program Info Session: 1/21
Learn about the Kauffman Entrepreneurial Year (KEY) program at an information session Thursday, January 21, at 3:30 p.m. in Lattimore 306A. The program offers accepted students a fifth, tuition-free year of college to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. The program is supported by the College and the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneur-in-Residence Office Hours: 1/22 and 1/28
Need advice on launching a new venture? Schedule an appointment with the Ain Center's Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR). Gregg Steinberg, managing director of Charlemagne Global Advisory and serial entrepreneur, will hold office hours on Friday, January 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Carol Simon Hall. John Hawkins, vice president of Paramax Corp. and president of Benchview Management Corp., will hold office hours on Thursday, January 28, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. also in Carol Simon Hall. Register for First Mark Ain Business Model Workshop: 1/26
The 2016 Mark Ain Business Model Workshop Series kicks off with “Overview of the Competition and Idea Thickening,” presented by the Simon Entrepreneurs Association student club and Mark Wilson, lecturer, Simon School, and founder, Initiatives Consulting, LLC, on Tuesday, January 26, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. in Gleason Hall, Room 318/418. Workshops are free and open to all members of the University and the general public. The competition (submissions are due in mid-April) is open to currently enrolled University students at any level of study. Food and refreshments will be provided at each workshop. Attendees must register online or call 276-3500.
Apply to the UR Student Incubator at HTR this Spring
The University of Rochester offers incubator space for student-run companies at High Tech Rochester, made possible by Simon alumnus Mark S. Ain ’67S (MBA). Companies accepted into the program will have access to all client amenities within the High Tech Rochester (HTR) Lennox Tech Enterprise Center, as well as access to HTR’s Director of New Ventures and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, who can provide coaching, mentoring, and networking connections. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; Rochester students at any level of study can apply. Learn more about eligibility requirements and download an application.
Reimbursement Available for UR Students who Enter 2016 Rochester Venture Challenge
The Ain Center for Entrepreneurship is offering to reimburse 50 percent of the $150 registration fee for promising business plans, written by current University of Rochester students, submitted to the 2016 Rochester Venture Challenge, a Rochester area business plan competition run by High Tech Rochester (HTR). Student teams must submit an executive summary of their business plans to aincfe@rochester.edu by Wednesday, January 20, at noonfor consideration. Included in the registration fee are two seats per company for a series of four workshops that run on January 27, February 3, 10 and 17 at HTR. Student companies interested in competing must apply online and pay the registration fee upfront by Monday, January 25. This contest is open to early-stage companies headquartered in the Greater Rochester region and is not limited to student competitors.
