AVIVA! AVIVA!
Local designer/upcycler

1. Pixie Coats by Aviva

AVIVA:
Upcycler Extraordinaire
A prime example of another local seamstress and  "Up-cycler" who really takes the art form to new levels! Aviva takes in old clothing that would otherwise get discarded, chops them up, and turns them into some of the wildest and most unique items you can imagine!

Coats and more
Her sweater coats, full length jackets made out of recycled sweaters, really steal the show, but that's not all she makes! She also creates some of our absolute favorite leg and arm warmers.

Full Circle for Still Eagle clothes!
The best part? A lot of the old clothing she's chopping up originally came from us, - Nomads, Maha Devi, and others from the past decade of sustainable fashions (that do apparently eventually stain or wear out!)

We LOVE getting it back in the shop in a new form! Aviva's clothing creations are not just totally fun and absolutely unique- they are also keeping good fabric out of the landfill! Eco friendly AND colorful? We're all about it!

Just TRY having a bad day when you're wearing a rainbow sweater coat!

Aviva's Back Story:
This is a mother-daughter team who own a thrift store in the Kootenays. After seeing the amount of textile waste, we have endeavored to create as many avenues for recycling and up-cycling as possible. We have been doing "Ye old socks" for may years making knits on antique sock knitting machines. In 2011 we started a group called the kootenay up-cycling society. This allowed us to network with many people who are currently repurposing many different items. One of the first remade items was woven rag rugs, then it moved on to plastic bag woven shopping totes, tee shirt yarn being knit into hats, shawl's and purses. Sweater jackets became a passion and are in high demand. Then remade sweater legwarmers, gloves and mug cozies. We reuse buttons, zippers, ties, wool, tee-shirt's, cd's, records and anything else we can think of. We never really know what will come out of our recycling minds so look for updates on our facebook page.
