This is made up of several of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s previous small grants as well as funding from North Derbyshire CCG and Derbyshire County Council Public Health.

The Better Derbyshire Dales Fund will award small grants to support the work of new or existing community groups or organisations that are working within the Derbyshire Dales and are in need of capital or revenue funding.

The Better Derbyshire Dales Fund will support organisations or specific projects that aim to develop or strengthen communities and/or people’s health and well-being. We are also interested in supporting less popular causes and work that supports disadvantaged and marginalised sections of the community.

Since August this year, we have made 24 awards. There is one further round this financial year – the deadline for applications to this is Monday 1st February 2016.

The Dales Housing Community Chest fund is available for projects that reduce the risk of crime and anti-social behaviour; help young people to participate in their community; promote wellbeing within the community; support Dales Housing aims including delivering actions within the Neighbourhood Plans or support communities to be more independent.

Projects must involve majority Dales Housing tenants. If your community project is eligible why not book a one-to-one advice slot with the Dale Housing Community Involvement Team.

On 23rd January Claire Thornber (Financial Action and Advice Derbyshire) is travelling to Greece taking supplies and donated items to the Eidomeni Wardrobe Crew. Eidomeni borders with Macedonia and is on the ‘Balkan route’ to North Europe. 2000-3000 people arrive daily in Eidomeni but only those from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq can continue to Macedonia. The others wait for long periods of time in what are now freezing temperatures to be placed in detention centres or bussed to Athens to temporary refugee camps. Claire is collecting the following items:

  •  Men’s jogging bottoms

  •  Women’s maternity wear

  •  Underwear (new)

  •  Baby slings / carriers

  •  Thick socks

  •  Shoes, boots or trainers

  •  Ponchos / coats

  •  Sleeping bags

  •  Tents

  •  Sleeping mats

  •  Hats

  •  Scarves

  •  Gloves

  •  Jumpers

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service can support Derbyshire Dales residents over 50 years old, or residents with a physical or mental disability to access grant funding where assistance is required to de-clutter their home. They can also support residents whose vulnerability means that paid assistance is required to support the logistics of moving home or daily living.

The primary use of this funding is to improve living conditions that are affecting the health and wellbeing of an individual or individual(s) and not to provide assistance in  high level hoarded properties.  As such 3 out of the following criteria must be met before funding will be considered:-

  •  Over 50 and/or physical/mental disability

  •  Private owned or private rented properties

  •  Removal of low-level clutter which is likely to cause falls/injury

  •  Removal or movement of small amounts of household items where there will be a demonstrable health benefit to an individual(s)

  •  Removal or movement of small amounts of household items to enable equipment to be installed i.e. loft installation or radiators/boilers

  •  Removal or movement of small amounts of household items to improve the living conditions that can prevent excess winter deaths

Please note the funding will be used to procure services such as a skip or a person(s) in a van to provide clearing or moving support.  No money will be provided to the resident.

To access the funds statutory or voluntary/community sector partners will need to refer the individual to the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Community Safety Officer to enable a visit to be undertaken to confirm if grant assistance can be allocated. Western Power Distribution is hosting  a number of Stakeholder Workshops. These are to discuss WPD’s accepted business plan for 2015 – 2020 and to give participants the opportunity to shape thinking on a number of long-term strategic challenges facing electricity networks.

WPD’s Business Plan for Ofgem’s most recent price control – RIIO – ED1 was fast-tracked by the regulator in 2014. Though the business plan is being implemented there is still an opportunity to discuss delivery and in particular how WPD should monitor and report progress to customers. This event will be an opportunity to understand WPD’s performance so far.

Western Power Distribution is hoping for a wide cross-section of participants at the event – which includes presentations as well as workshops – including parish and local councils; energy suppliers and major users; vulnerable customer representatives, business groups, developers; environmental representatives and conservation groups

Individuals, clubs and organisations in rural areas that need access to information and services, are able to purchase fully functioning ex-government computers for as little as £130.

The computers are being made available through the Arthur Rank Centre. This is a collaborative unit supported by the National Churches, the Royal Agricultural Society of England and the Rank Foundation. For organisations that need more than one computer, such as for a drop-in centre or school, the prices are even lower.

Last week the Junction Arts van was loaded with 35 archive boxes and driven over to the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock. It’s an exciting time for the Junction Arts team. Jane Wells, project co-ordinator says: “We’re all really keen to get started, delving into the boxes that contain all kinds of material from documents to news cuttings, publications, photographs, videos, cds and dvds – all of which will reveal the story of Junction Arts over a 40 year period. We also know there is a lot more out there and would welcome further donations! In the New Year we will begin the cataloguing and will be looking for volunteers to help us. The sessions will take place weekly in Matlock and your involvement can be as little or as much as you can offer. Everyone involved will receive some training from the Record Office archivists and we can pay your travel expenses.”
