Impact Circle - 4 Grantees: 
Six Month Reports

Puget Soundkeeper Alliance
 
The Alliance works to stop the decline in Puget Sound water quality. The Sustainable Path Foundation grant supports the Field Director position, enabling the Alliance to expand its field operations. 
  • Soundkeeper's Second Largest Clean Water Case
    •  Rainier Petroleum must finally comply with the Clean Water Act.  Read the update here.
Some of their other accomplishments include:
  • Compliance Inspections
    • Supervised 63 boat and kayak pollution detection patrols
    • Engaged 320 volunteers in coordination with Stewardship Coordinator
  • Support for Clean Water Quality Enforcement
    • Observed 55 field sites for permit compliance
    • Conducted 53 public records reviews for sites observed in the field

The Tenmile Creek Clean Water Project represents an effort by citizen stakeholders to involve the community in voluntary reduction of fecal coliform levels.

Here is one recent activity: Crayfish Die Off Spotted
 
One of the Tenmile project participants noticed hundreds of dead crayfish lining the bottom of the creek. ReSources filed an environmental response tracking form with the Dept. of Ecology. Samples taken at three sites showed high levels of compounds found in pesticides that are common in raspberry and blueberry fields
 
A recent presentation viewed by the project participants, Pesticides and Water Quality in Tenmile Creek, was made by two toxicologists from the WA State Dept. of Agriculture, and is available to view here

Feb. 15
Astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was born in Pisa, Italy. 
FORMING IMPACT CIRCLE - 6     AND FIRST 2016 GRANT CYCLE
Impact Circle - 6 will begin to meet in March and complete the grant-making work in April.

The focus for this grant is: OPEN SPACES AND SUSTAINABLE BUILT ENVIRONMENTS.

Your Money at Work


UPDATE ON OUR FIRST FOUNDERS' GRANTEE
The Center for Sustainable Infrastructure issued a press release about its funding support .
“We are very grateful and proud that these prestigious foundations found merit in our work and our delivery. This is a vote of confidence for sustainable infrastructure throughout our region,” said CSI Director, Rhys Roth. 

Rhys is currently finishing a project with the Washington chapter of the American Planning Association (APA), a new publication called Sustainable Infrastructure: A Toolkit for P​l​a​n​n​e​r​s​. The Toolkit is scheduled for release April 17, 2016 at the national APA conference in Seattle. 

FRIENDS OF THE SAN JUANS
Friends of the San Juans received an Impact Circle - 2 grant for their work on Adaptation to Sea Level Rise Adaptation. Their Science Director, Tina Whitman, participated in a webinar sponsored by the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative Science-Management. You can watch the video here.
