Self-care workshop for the community living worker
Inclusion BC is hosting a 3-hour workshop in New Westminster, designed as a special training session for Community Living support staff. The goal of this workshop is to offer support through information and team-building exercises that focus on the wellness of each member of the staff team within a healthy workplace culture. Review of the Office of the Advocate for Service Quality
The Ministry of Social Development and Innovation recently reviewed the role of Advocate for Service Quality for people with developmental disabilities in BC. The purpose of the review was to "assess current and potential roles, responsibilities and core value of the Advocate for Service Quality position within its existing context." Video Coverage of Sprout Disability Film Festival by Spotlight Jake
Inclusion BC and the BC Self Advocacy Foundation hosted a Film Festival at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster on December 3, celebrating the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The short films were followed by a Q&A session led by Spotlight Jake. View the video here.

Ready, Willing & Able - success in numbers
The Ready, Willing and Able (RWA) program has moved into its second year with the national program rolled out in 20 primary RWA communities across the country. Across Canada, the employer engagement efforts have been highly successful and are being met with much interest and support from many employers. Read more.
Inclusive Education Awards Nominations Open
To highlight National Inclusive Education Month in February and to bring attention to the many positive examples of inclusive classrooms and schools across the country, the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) has created a national certificate of recognition to be given to recipients who have made positive contributions to inclusive education in their province or territory. Importance of relationships to physical health
We all know that authentic relationships are an important part of living a good life in community. But did you know that it's shown to be the biggest determinant for strong physical health? New research shows that social connections are "as important for health as exercise and diet" and a 75-year-long study on happiness recently revealed that "the clearest message we get from this 75 year study is this: good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period."
Emergency preparedness for people with disabilities
The BC Government has released an emergency preparedness guide for people with disabilities called "Prepared BC: Resources for People with Disabilities." View the guide here.
The BC Government is also seeking input on the Emergency Program Act, which sets out the key responsibilities and authorities to guide and enable experts at the local and provincial levels in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. Autism-specific In Case of Emergency (ICE) mobile app
Developed in partnership with Autism Canada, the iPhone and iPad app, ICE4Autism, is the only autism-specific “in case of emergency†app for people on the Autism spectrum. Read more about the app here.
