GET READY FOR #LxAddictions17

Over 600 participants from 58 countries attended the First European conference on addictive behaviours and dependencies held in Lisbon in 2015. The conference sold out several months before the event. Selected presentations and posters are still available on the conference website at www.lisbonaddictions.eu

Following this success, the organisers have decided to launch Lisbon Addictions 2017, which will take place in the Lisboa Congress Centre (a new venue, which can accommodate up to 850 participants), from 24 to 26 October 2017.

Once again, the conference will be jointly organised by the Portuguese General Directorate for Intervention on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (SICAD), the journal Addiction, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE).

This conference newsletter will keep you updated on news and developments regarding the event.

New and larger venue

For the second edition of Lisbon Addictions, and due to the demand of the first event, we have chosen a bigger venue. The Lisboa Congress Centre is located near the Tagus river and close to the historic buildings of Belém quarter.

News from 2015 collaborative partners

Lisbon Addictions 2015 provided an opportunity for its collaborative partners to network, disseminate their work and profit from synergies. Here is an update on their main events and milestones.

ALICE RAP final event: A-Debate — U-Turn on Addictions
ALICE RAP will host an on-site and online final debate to present and discuss key research findings coming out of the project, their policy implications and the science that has the greatest potential to contribute to smart and evidence-based global drugs policy. The event will be attended (either in person or remotely) by high-level scientists, policy actors from national and international organisations and expert civil society actors, and is expected to shape the messages from multidisciplinary addiction science. See the provisional agenda and register for the event.

RARHA: Joint Action RARHA — Reducing Alcohol Related Harm, is a three-year action coordinated by Portugal (SICAD). It is funded under the second EU Health Programme which supports Member States as they take forward work on common priorities in line with the EU Alcohol Strategy. On 17 February 2016, an Expert Meeting will take place in Helsinki, Finland, to identify points of convergence and potential for consensus on good practice principles in the use of drinking guidelines as a public health measure. The meeting is open to everyone.

ERANID: The European Network for Research on Illicit Drugs (ERANID) launched its first joint call on 15 September 2015 in order to fund transnational multidisciplinary research under the theme ‘Understanding Drug Use Pathways’. A total of 30 transnational proposals were submitted. More than 70 renowned international experts were invited to be peer reviewers. A Peer Review Panel Meeting, along with a Funders meeting, will take place in Lisbon at the end of March. Based on the final ranking list elaborated by the peer reviewers and on the budget available at national level, the funders will decide which proposals will be funded.
