PT Ski Newsletter January 2016

Happy New Year from PT Ski! There were certainly plenty of festivities in Klosters with fireworks in the village at midnight on New Year’s Eve and the now traditional piglet racing on New Year’s Day. There was also plenty of fun skiing in spite of the much publicised dearth of snow across the Alps. The team at Davos Klosters did a fabulous job on the mountain with good pistes on the Parsenn (including the run down to Davos which is one of my favourites), all runs being open on Jakobshorn and the nursery slopes on Madrisa being in pristine condition for young beginners. As always, out of adversity springs opportunity and the Schwarzee at the top of the Flüelapass was opened for skating. We took the PT Ski Piste Busters there one afternoon to enjoy this unique opportunity which has never occurred before in my lifetime.

The good news is that since the weekend there has now been snow across the Alps.  Indeed according to the Ski Club of Great Britain snow forecast another half metre of snow is anticipated in Klosters over the next 9 days. This bodes particularly well for our first off piste weekend of the season which is 13-17 January. There is one space left and it is not too late to book! Call us on 0207 736 5557.

No snow not new!
In 1964, with conditions akin to those witnessed across the Alps recently, Innsbruck was threatened by a lack of snow for the Winter Olympics which it was hosting. To ensure the viability of the Games the Austrian army carved out 20,000 ice bricks from a mountain top and transported them to the bobsled and luge runs. They also carried 40,000 cubic metres of snow to the Alpine skiing courses. The army packed down the slopes by hand and foot. It is a lot easier these days with snow machines!

James PT and PT Ski have been featured as one of the Britons you need to know in the world of snow by Exclusively British magazine. We're very flattered to be in such elevated company!
The Skiing with Heroes Business Challenge is coming up at the end of the month. We're looking forward to hosting 20 business teams and 5 teams of veterans as they compete for honour in this annual fund raising event.
