Around the world and back...and back fixed!

Sorry for the groaner, but I couldn't resist! It has been quite a six months since I last sent you an update. I did actually travel around the world this summer working with Christian schools in Nepal and Indonesia and on the last day of August had major spinal fusion surgery. I am grateful for, and overwhelmed by, all the blessings I have experienced. The pain is gone in my hip and leg! My wife and I celebrated the birth of our fourth grandchild this June and our 40th anniversary in August. I am so grateful for God's grace and wonderful family and friends!
It was great to be at the Prairie Center for Christian Education
conference in October!
Deeper Learning in Christian Schools!
It was a joy to meet with 50 other educator friends in Chicago in November to share what each was doing to promote Deeper Learning across North America. I have been blogging about this movement - see my posts of March, April, May, and September.

Curriculum Mapping Made Easy!
W
e are grateful to have had 119 schools start mapping with Curriculum Trak last year!

  • Curriculum mapping is a critical tool for articulation, alignment, communication, school improvement, and capturing intellectual assets of your school.
  • One of the unique tools in Curriculum Trak is our Faith-Learning Integration tool - assisting faith based schools to connect their mission and student outcomes in substantive ways.
  • The statements listed above are just some of the reasons why accreditation groups such as Christian Schools International, the Association of Christian Schools International, and others have informally been recommending Curriculum Trak to schools - we are grateful for their support and proud to be helping schools better articulate their mission through their teaching and learning planning!
  • If you are just beginning to use mapping to get your articulated curriculum in order, or if you are seeking how to use mapping effectively for school improvement and wishing to further refine your maps, I am happy to be of assistance.
Our team of CACE Fellows are currently working with eight different schools in California, Utah, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. We have also supported the efforts of the summer PBL Academy's in Ontario and BC as well as helping to facilitate the Chicago Deeper Learning conversation in November. At our November Score Group meeting with our schools we worked with them on developing a practical mission benchmarking tool. The CACE Fellows and others continue to blog here.
Do you know how your strengths work together and how to maximize the strengths of your team? I wish I had been able to have had coaching around my strengths and leadership type earlier in my career - it has been most valuable and I would like others to have access to this insight for their leadership. This past year I have had the opportunity to bring CoreClarity to, and work with, multiple individuals and teams - our CACE Fellows, CACE school leaders, two international schools leadership teams, various individuals in leadership coaching, and the Dordt College Education Department and Provost Team. To learn more, you might enjoy seeing this intro video.
Navigating change in teaching and learning - I am excited to be working with two different schools that are interested in developing high quality, student engaged learning. We are partnering to move thinking forward in teaching and learning at their schools with their boards, leadership teams, and with their teachers. In both cases we are exploring and making significant and exciting changes in pedagogical practice. If you need help with this change process, please consider letting me assist you - I can connect you with the people and resources that you need.
