NEWS FROM THE JACKIE FACTORY
Greetings from the East Village NYC, where we're finally back to Real Life after the looooong holiday season!  We've just announced this year's NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES for Friday the 13th of May back at IRVING PLAZA - our 26th edition.  We are also working on music and spectacles including the annual ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION bash during the Academy Awards, more MAX MARA Fashion Show Music, and other doings. (A few of those dates are included here, with details to come as we get closer.)  None of this would be possible without you, our faithful and fabulous audience and collaborators.

We will be off to New Orleans soon for some early Carnival, but first there's the opening of the big PUNK MAGAZINE celebration at HOWL! HAPPENING this Thursday. We hope to see you there, and send our very best wishes for this brand new year.
THE JACKIE FACTORY PRESENTS
NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES 26: DARK DAUGHTERS
FRIDAY THE 13TH MAY, 2016
IRVING PLAZA

TICKETS ON SALE 1/15
NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES - the largest and most beloved STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world - returns to New York City's IRVING PLAZA on May 13 for its twenty-sixth annual edition. This marathon evening - produced by THE JACKIE FACTORY - is one of those great New York City spectacles that spark travel from all around the globe.

Last year's (2015) edition marked the show at a quarter-century, and celebrated it's history, performers, audience and great moments. As they begin the next chapter, founder-producers CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL are keen to look forward to new and recently emerging NOTS talent and interpretations - the "Dark Daughters" of Steviespace. They can't resist creating something VERY Nicks/Poe/Gothic for the VERY special FRIDAY THE 13TH date for NOTS 26, and all of that black witchy glamour we crave!

If you missed last year's show, see our "NOTS The First Quarter Century" video montage here. The piece was created to open NOTS 25: TIMELESS by Factory Documentarian JEREMY ROCKLIN and contains favorite moments and performers from the first 24 years. (The featured still is the RACHEL KLEIN ensemble taking a bow in 2014.)

JANUARY 14-30
A CELEBRATION OF THE PUBLICATION OF PUNK MAGAZINE #1
HOWL! HAPPENING: AN ARTURO VEGA PROJECT
6 EAST 1ST STREET NYC
Opening reception is on Thursday, January 14th, from 6-9 PM.

On January 15, 1976, a flicker of light emerged on the underground cultural landscape of New York City as Volume 1, No. 1 of PUNK MAGAZINE was published. Capturing the essence of not only the newly developing punk music scene, it also cataloged the flourishing cultural mini urban renaissance of art and fashion being played out in clubs such as CBGBs and MAX'S KANSAS CITY—the amalgamation of new styles, smells, visuals, and sounds in what was New York's underground…the now famous Lower East Side (LES).  A generation and more of music, fashion and art would never be the same.

Opening January 14, 2016, HOWL! HAPPENING is pleased to present an exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of Punk magazine, which featured LOU REED as drawn by JOHN HOLMSTROM on the cover (above). In addition to Holmstrom, the exhibition showcases new work by some of the brilliant artists and illustrators who contributed to the magazine in the 1970s. Included are Robert Romagnoli (who replaced Robert Crumb at The Village Voice); Ken Weiner, who will be drawing “Ugly Portraits” during the opening event; and Holmstrom’s work from the CBGB film (savaged by film critics, but beloved by fans). Also on view are artifacts from the magazine, like the Sex Pistols puppets made by Rose Lasagne featured on the cover of Punk #14, original press sheets from the first issue of the magazine, and samples of the Punk clothing line from Japan, where the movement became a cultural phenomenom.

In celebration of the exhibit, Howl! Happening is pleased to host two panel discussions (more info coming soon):

January 21, 2016 - New York, New York: Why New York City was “The Greatest City in the World” in the 1970s and the Punk Movement had to happen here.

January 28, 2016 - Punk sucks! The War Against “Punk” in the 1970s.
