Peak Pioneer ~ January 18, 2016

Division I and II students spent three days in the backcountry last week at Vance's Cabin and the Sangree Froelicher hut outside of Leadville!

A letter from the Head of School:

Dear Parents:

It was great to welcome back our Div I and II students from their Hut Trips on Friday afternoon. The school had been too quiet for three days! The students were a bit exhausted, but glowing with the memories of their time together, and justifiably proud of having met challenges of various kinds and emerged stronger for the experience.

Listening to their debriefings and seeing their reluctance to disperse home (to much needed showers and rest) made a visceral impression on me as to how important these Hut Trips – and indeed all the elements of our Outdoor Education program – are to building and sustaining The Peak School community.

A huge thank you to Morgan (Moore) Schmidt and Conor Craig for the absolutely first rate job of preparing the students, and organizing, coordinating, and leading the trips. It’s an immense job and they were on top of every detail. (How fantastic is it that one of our Div III students took on this responsibility and performed so admirably?!)  Heartfelt thanks, too, to the teachers and chaperones who made this opportunity possible: Liz Roush, Jeffrey Beavers, Shannon Fausel, and Max Tyler.

The next big event, another indispensable part of the Peak School experience – STEM Fair – is coming right up: this Friday, Sept 22 from 5:00 – 7:30 at the school. Our students have all been hard at work on these projects for the past several weeks, so don’t miss this opportunity to listen to their presentations and learn what they’ve discovered.

See you all at the STEM Fair!

Best,
