Focused on families with children in grades K-12, The Lightbulb will spotlight classes and camps, registration info for youth sports, School Age Child Care highlights and special events.

Rec & Ed "Revels" in New Youth Bowling Partnership

Young people in Ann Arbor have a cool winter sports option starting Jan. 23 at the renovated Revel & Roll bowling facility. Rec & Ed will be offering a new youth bowling league for grades 1-5 and 6-9.  

“We’re excited about this new partnership with Revel & Roll because it gives families something new to try and another opportunity to stay active this winter," said Elyse Bairley, Rec & Ed's Youth Team Sports Supervisor. "All skill levels and are welcome to join this fun new league.”



 
Winter Rec & Ed Youth League Details

  • The youth bowling league will feature two groups: grades 1-5 and 6-9.

  • The season runs on Saturdays from January 23 to March 26.

  • Each session will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The first 30 minutes will be bowling instruction followed by league play. 

  • Students will play 3 games per day. 

  • The registration fee covers ball, lane and shoe rental and an end of season pizza party.

Youth Spring Sports 2016

Spring registration will open online for youth soccer, field hockey and flag football the week of Jan. 25. These programs will run from April to early June. Stay connected for more information about Spring sports!

Teen YogaFit offers Mind-Body Fitness for Youth

Students in grades 6-12 can have fun and get in shape with this fitness class. They'll learn to move and breathe through flowing yoga poses that will improve strength, stamina and flexibility.

This mind body practice is a form of moving meditation that will help build emotional balance and self-confidence. Please bring your own yoga mat and water bottle.

Certified Yoga Instructor Dominique Theophilus is the instructor for this 8-week class held at the Cultural Arts Building (CAB).

Join After School Classes for Fun, Hands-on Learning

Build a rocket, learn to play chess, draw a masterpiece or practice yoga -- there are so many opportunities for your child to learn and grow after school this winter.

Sally Searls Retires After 32 Years with Rec & Ed

Rec & Ed staff will bid a fond, grateful farewell this month to Sally Searls, Lifelong Learning Manager. 

"Sally has given so much to the school district and Ann Arbor community," said Jenna Bacolor, Executive Director of Community Education and Recreation. "She helped establish and grow our child care, after school classes and summer camp programs. Thousands of children have enjoyed these programs over Sally's tenure."

Everyone at Rec & Ed wishes Sally the best in her well-deserved retirement. Her last day with Rec & Ed is January 22.
