AnMBR Workshop

On January 16 at the University of Southampton, more than 50 AD Network members heard about the latest developments and uses of Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors (AnMBR) from UK and international scientists and practitioners. The ADBA R&I Forum will again be held in conjunction with the Anaerobic Digestion Network and the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN). This year it is kindly hosted by the Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) in York.
For academics, this is a tremendous opportunity to put your research in front of industry, and is equally good for industry to investigate cost-saving potential from research.

AD Network BIV Produces
New Anaerobic Digestion Modelling Tool

Work done by the University of Southampton with IEA Task 37 (UK) Ltd has produced a new program-based modelling tool for anyone interested in modelling an AD system. At its simplest, it can be used to calculate potential biogas (and electrical) output for a system, but it is complex enough to calculate wider energy use and production across a whole system. The model includes a wide variety of potential AD feedstocks, but users are also able to enter their own values. It is also possible to compare scenarios and to export all the information as a .CSV in order to further manipulate the outputs.

Academics, can you help?

Mark Scaife is a principal scientist at Mara Renewables Corporation (http://Maracorp.ca) who in partnership with Algal Omega 3 are producing omega-3 fatty acids via microalgal fermentation, in Liverpool. This produces large volumes of waste water rich in sulphates, phosphates and protein.

They are looking for academics who would be keen to apply their knowledge to jointly develop a solution to this waste water challenge, ideally through a BIV bid, in the first instance. Interested parties can contact Mark at mscaife@maracorp.ca
