GWL's weekly roundup of local events and opportunities related to women and gender

ANNOUNCEMENTS

GWL Leadership Opportunity: Vice President of Events

GWL is accepting applications for the position of VP of Events for the Spring 2016 semester. The VP of Events will support GWL’s Events Chair, Kammi Sheeler, provide logistical support for GWL events throughout the semester, and will have the opportunity to take ownership of specific GWL events. In particular, the VP of Events will play an active role managing GWL’s first career trek, tentatively scheduled for late February, and will likely be involved in the planning and execution of upcoming events that include a Sustainability Panel, bi-weekly Coffee Chats, professional development workshops, and a conference launch event.

The work will require close coordination with the Events Chair and strong organizational skills. The VP of Events position is a terrific opportunity to network with the many professionals involved in GWL’s events and to broaden your involvement in GWL, especially if you're considering GWL leadership positions next year. Expected time commitment of ~3 hrs/wk.

Current SAIS students may apply by submitting to saiswomenlead@gmail.com their SAIS formatted resume and a brief statement of interest by describing interest in the position, experience with event planning, and any ideas for additional programming. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Saturday, January 30th, and decisions will be made by Wednesday, February 3rd. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at saiswomenlead@gmail.com

Sign up for GWL's Coffee Chat with Jeni Klugman, Development Economist

GWL will kick off its Coffee Chats series this semester on Tuesday, January 26 with a discussion with Dr. Jeni Klugman on economic development, women and gender, and a career in development policy.

Jeni Klugman is a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government’s Women in Public Policy Program at Harvard University, where she teaches a course on gender inequality and development. She served a director of Gender & Development at the World Bank until July 2014, and previously served as director and lead author of three global Human Development Reports published by the UNDP. In addition to a Ph.D. in Economics from the Australian National University, she holds postgraduate degrees in both Law and Development Economics from the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.

Students who sign up for the GWL Coffee Chat with Jeni Klugman will have the opportunity to ask her candid, off-the-record questions about her career and professional experiences, as well as substantive questions about her views on the development space. The event will be capped at 12 students to promote an informal and intimate discussion, and light refreshments will be provided.

The discussion will take place on Tuesday, January 26 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. To sign up, please fill out our form here (current SAIS students only). Registration is first-come, first-serve and we will email you within 72 hours to let you know whether you have received a space or if you have been placed on our waitlist.
