Emergency Preparedness

The staff at COSKids has been working on a new Emergency Preparedness plan. This is a hot topic right now with the State of North Carolina.

North Carolina Department of Public Safety has recently launched the ReadyNC app to help families prepare themselves and their homes for emergencies.
To find out more you can visit their website.

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 Tbsp creme of tartar
3 Tbsp oil
2 cups boiling water
2 packages unsweetened Kool-Aid

Mix flour, salt and creme of tartar together. Add oil.
Mix the boiling water with the 2 packages of Kool-Aid. Add to dry ingredients and mix.
Pour dough onto cutting board sprinkled with flour.  Knead dough until it is cool.
If dough is sticky, add more flour until the right consistency is reached.
Store in airtight container.

Q & U Wedding

Throughout the year the 4-year-old classes (and 3s too) spend time getting to know the letters of the alphabet. Letters take on meaning to a child of this age as they begin to be able to grasp the concepts that letters have sounds attached to them and when those letters are combined, they make words and gain meaning.

On Friday, Jan. 30th, the 4s have officially made it all the way through the alphabet once, with focus on a different letter each week. We celebrated our letter study with the "Q&U Wedding." In the English language Q and U appear together in all but 71 words (go ahead and Google it!) and some of those are obsolete spellings. Now the classes will start all over again, through the alphabet while practicing writing both upper and lower case letters. Who would have thought that learning the read and write could be so much fun!

Comments? Suggestions? Thoughts?

We welcome feedback to help us continue serving you, the families of COSKids, in the best ways possible. Feel free to stop by the office for a chat or drop a suggestion in the suggestion box on the bookshelf in the hallway of the Main Building.

Staff Updates...

Teacher of the Month
February

Jessica Houston

When Ms. Jessica joined COSKids in 2015, we were very excited to have her join our team. She has over 10 years of experience working with young children. Ms. Jessica first started out as the Assistant Teacher for Ms. Doris Beerbower in the Busybees. When Ms. Doris retired in November, we never hesitated in promoting Ms. Jessica to the Lead Teacher position. Her organizational skills and ability to keep track of details are amazing. She always makes sure that the basic needs of every child are met and makes sure that her classroom is both loving and stimulating.  Congratulations!

Change in Status ~

COSKids requires a two week notice if your status is changing (ie., you are leaving, you need to change the number of days attending). Please notify the office of any changes.

E-Payment ~

Please consider doing e-payment using your credit or debit card. It's convenient, safe and automatic. Simply fill out the attached paperwork and bring it by the office (copies are available in the office also).  Your payments will be posted each Friday.

Not only are e-payments convenient but COSKids saves $ too because the cost is lower than processing a credit/debit card through the machine in the office or via PayPal.

Remind 101

Take time to sign up for text messages and reminders from COSKids. Simply text @COSKids to 81010 and you will receive infrequent messages that are important, such as closing reminders or emergencies that effect the whole campus.
Do you shop at Harris Teeter? Please take time to relink your VIC card to COSKids.

A portion of your purchase at HT will be returned to COSKids.

Email us if you would like us to relink for you ~ simply provide your VIC number or phone number associated with the card.
Do you shop on Amazon.com? Next time try Smile.Amazon.com

It is the same Amazon, same prices, same deals, but you can select a favorite non-profit, such as Christ Our Shepherd Ministries to have a portion of your purchase donated to.
