From the President...

I hope you’ve had a great start to 2016!  We kicked off the year with our very own Brenda Rosen giving us a motivational talk for our very first Club meeting, which I think has set the tone nicely.

We are hitting the ground running as we host an evening with Charlotte Proudman instead of our usual Club meeting on Wednesday, 10 February.

Then we have our Amelia Earhart fellows coming and a special dinner with them on Friday, 12 February.

We are looking forward to International Convention in Nice during the summer – while we are still in wintery January, it may seem like a long way off, but as we know times goes by so quickly and before you know it, the Convention will be just around the corner.

You should note that the early bird price of 315 euros ends on 27 February, so please start planning now. If you would like a fee-free solution to transfer from pounds to euros at the current spot rate, use this TransferWise link.

It's our fundraising chair Angela Yin's link.  For every three Zontians who use it, she will get a £50 bonus, which she will forward to our Club's fundraising efforts. Now there is an easy way to fundraise for our Club!

Our Club generally has excellent representation at Area and District level and International will be no exception. For some of our members, it will be our very first Convention and we are looking forward to meeting Zontians from all over the world.

The International Convention's website is here.

I am very excited at what our Club has in store for members, supporters and of course, the charities and young women we support.  Have a great year!

Rehana Raja
President

The Zonta Club of Guildford invites us all to their next meeting where guest speaker Diksha Chakravarti will talk about her experience of being evicted from Uganda by Idi Amin, being separated from her family, and becoming a refugee at age 15.

The plight of refugees are at the forefront of our minds these days, and Diksha's story of her journey from refugee to Director of her own company, fascilitating workshops in stress management, midfulness and communcation skills, promises to be fascinating!

Which charities should Zonta Club of London II support?
As you may remember from late last year, we can no longer support Eaves for Women as a charity because they closed down due to funding restraints.

At the April AGM, we will need to make a decision about which women’s charities to support in the coming year.

If you have ideas about which local charities you think our Club should be supporting, please email contact@zontalondon.org, with a brief explanation about the name of the charity, what they do, who is the most appropriate contact person and how you think Zonta Club of London II can help.  Remember, it’s not just about money!  We do provide some cash support to our main charities with the proceeds of our fundraising efforts, but we also provide “in-kind” donations, such as toiletries.

The charities must have a women and girls focus, as we are about empowering women through service and advocacy.
Donate the Zonta London Fund, our charity
As always, feel free to donate to our Fund via our giving page https://www.givey.com/zontalondonfund or by text messaging, as per the picture!

These platforms automatically allow you to declare your Gift Aid status as a UK taxpayer, giving our Club the benefit.
International friendships thanks to Zonta
And to prove how wonderful Zonta is at promoting friendships across the world between women, here is a lovely picture of Angela Yin with Barbara Manschmidt of the Zonta Club of Bielefeld at the District 29 Conference in Groningen last year!
Your input counts!
We would like to continue to develop our bulletin with our members and supporters in mind.  If you have anything you would like to share with the Club, please do not hesitate to email contact@zontalondon.org
