The eSojourner

Chalice Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Leadership Meeting This Sunday

First, if you are planning to come and have not told anyone for sure, please RSVP.

Leaders will spend the afternoon talking and planning, looking for what and where God is calling us. Will you hold us in prayer? Please? For we trust that this work is God's work, but that does not mean it is easy work.

As we pray more about this afternoon, let us share this prayer written by Walter Brueggemann:

We would as soon you were stable and reliable.
We would as soon you were predictable and always the same toward us.
We would like to take the hammer of doctrine
          and the nails of piety
and nail your feet to the floor
and have you stay in one place.
And then we find you moving,
          always surprising us,
always coming at us from new directions.
Always planting us
           and uprooting us
           and tearing all things down
           and making all things new.
You are not the God we would have chosen
           had we done the choosing,
           but we are your people
and you have chosen us in freedom.
We pray for the great gift of freedom
that we may be free toward you
as you are in your world.
Grant us that gift of freedom
that we may move in new places
            in obedience and gratitude.
Thank you for Jesus
who embodied your freedom for all of us. Amen.
We're happy to celebrate with Kate Barton who recently earned her Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest honor given by Girl Scouts of America. To earn the award, students must choose a project that will change their corner of the world. Kate started a Gay-Straight Alliance at her school. You can read more about her project here

Help IHELP!

Each day, IHELP guests are dropped off at their host site for the night. Each morning, the bus comes back and picks them up. For the most part, a single driver has been doing the work. However, he needs some relief!

If you're interested in helping, please contact Rev. Abby. There's no special license endorsement needed, but you do have to feel confident driving a 25 person van. If you want more details than that, we'll get them.
