‘Launch of WLANSW Wollongong Chapter’ Cocktail Event
Guest Speaker: The Hon Acting Justice Jane Mathews AO

Jane Mathews was the first woman judge in NSW. She has sat (for seven years each) on the District Court of NSW, the Supreme Court of NSW and the Federal Court of Australia. She is now an Acting Judge on the Supreme Court of NSW.
Amongst her numerous other activities, she has been President of the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Deputy President of the National Native Titles Tribunal, President of the Arts Law Centre of Australia, and Deputy Chancellor of the University of NSW.
Jane has always had a strong interest in women and the law. She was the founder of the Australian Association of Women Judges, and was the President of the International Association of Women Judges between 2004 and 2006. She is Patron of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW. She holds an honorary LLD from the University of Wollongong and Sydney Uni. In 2005 she was made an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Expressions of Interested in being Supported for Positions of Magistrate and Supreme Court Judge ACT
Australian Women Lawyers is consulting WLANSW as part of the consultation process being conducted by the ACT Attorney-General for the positions of Magistrate of the ACT Magistrates Court and Resident Judge of the ACT Supreme Court.
Members and colleagues interested in being supported by WLANSW as part of this consultation process are encouraged to forward a one paragraph summary addressing their qualifications for the role of Magistrate or Resident Judge to the WLANSW Executive Officer Kathryn McKenzie at executive@womenlawyersnsw.org.au by 5:00pm Friday 29 January 2016.
Support via this consultation process does not replace a formal application to the ACT Justice and Community Safety Directorate, and potential applicants are encouraged to make a formal application. Stakeholder Information Sessions -
Permanent Impairment Guidelines (4th edition)
The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) is hosting two free stakeholder information sessions on the main changes from the 3rd to the 4th edition of the NSW workers compensation guidelines for the evaluation of permanent impairment.
The stakeholder information sessions are intended for insurers, legal practitioners, medico-legal staff and those assessors of permanent impairment not required to complete mandatory update training. The sessions will be presented by highly experienced specialist doctors who were instrumental in the revisions to the Guidelines.
The first information session will be videoed and uploaded to the SIRA website for interested stakeholders who do not attend the Information Sessions. The information sessions will be held at Sydney Masonic Centre, 66 Goulburn Street, Sydney.
