TRANSCAN-2 Second Joint Transnational Call for Proposals 2015
The topic of the call will be: "Immunology and immunotherapy of cancer: strengthening the translational aspects".
Conditions: Only transnational projects will be funded. Each proposal must involve a minimum of three research groups eligible for the funding organisations participating in this call. Moreover, these eligible research groups must come from at least three different countries. No more than two eligible research groups from the same country participating in the call will be accepted. In any case, the maximum number of participants in a project consortium is seven. It is very important to check eligibility of potential partners.
Topics: The proposals will have to cover at least one of the specific research areas listed under the aims below:
- Identification and validation of shared or personalized mutated human tumor antigenic targets
- Development of new and combined immunotherapeutic strategies for cancer patients
- Translational research for clinical application of cancer immunotherapy
Applicants will have the opportunity to add an additional part for capacity building activities.
Budget: up to 100.000€ for Spanish partners and 150.000€ for Spanish coordinators. Accredited Health Research Institutes (Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria acreditados, IIS) must be project coordinator.
Duration: 3 years.

ERA-CVD Joint Transnational call 2016
Aim: developing translational innovative projects for diagnosis and therapy of Heart Failure. Research should focus on the association between precipitating or causative factors (e.g. metabolic factors), and the molecular effectors and organ dysfunction in the development and progression of HFREF and HFPEF.
Conditions: Only transnational projects will be funded. Each proposal must involve a minimum of three research groups eligible for the funding organisations participating in this call. Moreover, these eligible research groups must come from at least three different countries. No more than two eligible research groups from the same country participating in the call will be accepted. In any case, the maximum number of participants in a project consortium is five. It is very important to check eligibility of potential partners. Research proposals should have a translational perspective, with potential impact on disease severity and outcome.
Topics: proposals must cover at least one of the sub-topics proposed below, which are equal in relevance for this call:
- Earlier recognition and prognosis of Heart Failure
- Innovative approaches to prevent and treat Heart Failure or to reverse the remodelling process
- Role of the interface between myocardium and non-myocyte cells in pathophysiology of heart failure
Budget: up to 100.000€ for Spanish partners and 150.000€ for Spanish coordinators. Accredited Health Research Institutes (Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria acreditados, IIS) must be project coordinator.

Brain Imaging Working Groups 2016
Aim: assembling motivated groups of leading experts in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. Accordingly, the purpose of the call is to establish a limited number of transnational working groups to address the key challenges facing the use of new and innovative brain imaging techniques in neurodegenerative disease research. The working groups will be community-led and will establish ‘best practice’ guidelines and/or methodological frameworks to overcome these barriers.
Conditions: only trans-national research groups will be funded. To qualify for funding, each proposal must involve research experts from three or more of the 30 JPND countries. Working Group contributors are permitted to be members of Working Groups in more than one proposal. However, individuals may not act as the Coordinator for more than one proposal. The lead coordinator of the working group should be based in one of the countries that are contributing to this call.
Budget: 50.000€.
Duration: 9 months extendable to 12.

European Research Projects on External Insults to the Nervous System
Aim: to facilitate multinational, collaborative research projects that will address important questions relating to external insults to the central nervous system. The call will accept proposals ranging from understanding basic mechanisms of disease through proof-of-concept clinical studies in humans to neurorehabilitation. The focus of the call is on primary physical insults to the central nervous system, i.e. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). The call covers acute traumatic events over the entire lifespan.
Conditions: the research groups must be from at least three different countries. The total number of research groups in a consortium is limited to five. Not more than two research groups can be from the same country. It is very important to check eligibility of potential partners.
Topics: Research proposals should cover at least one of the following areas:
- Fundamental research investigating consequences of external insults to the central nervous system on a biological and functional level. This may include the development of innovative or shared resources, and new technologies for the prediction, prevention or therapy of disease.
- Clinical research, including the exploitation of novel and/or existing clinical data sets, to develop new strategies for diagnosis, therapy, and technology-driven neurorehabilitation (e.g. brain computer interfaces, EEG and neuroimaging approaches) for diseases after external insults to the central nervous system.
Budget: up to 100.000€ for Spanish partners and 150.000€ for Spanish coordinators. Accredited Health Research Institutes (Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria acreditados, IIS) must be project coordinator.
Duration: 3 years.
Deadline: 14/03/2016 for pre-proposals and 30/06/2016 for full proposals.

Infect-ERA 4th Call (2016)
Aim: to fund transnational and translational research, bringing together basic, applied and technology-driven research approaches of a broad variety of research topics regarding human infectious diseases (ID).
Conditions: the research groups must be from at least three different countries. The total number of research groups in a consortium is limited to six (seven if there are partners from Belgium, Poland, Romania or Hungary). Not more than two research groups can be from the same country. Proposals with topics HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis are not in the scope of the call. It is very important to check eligibility of potential partners.
Topics: research proposals should cover at least one of the following areas:
- The host-pathogen interactions, with regard to clinically relevant microbial clones, focused on host susceptibility.
- Development of innovative strategies for the diagnostic and treatment of high clinically relevant microbial infections; optimisation of antimicrobial therapy in an individual patient and development of biomarkers to allow individual response prediction.
Budget: up to 100.000€ for Spanish partners and 150.000€ for Spanish coordinators. Accredited Health Research Institutes (Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria acreditados, IIS) must be project coordinator.

JPI-EC-AMR Cofund Call for Proposals
Aim: to combine the resources, infrastructures, and research strengths of multiple countries in order to address transmission of antibiotic resistance following a ‘One Health Approach’. The goal is to foster multinational research collaborations to add value to and to build upon the research conducted independently at national level and to work together to improve the control of resistant bacterial infections of clinical and/or veterinary importance only.
Conditions: the research groups must be from at least three different countries. The total number of research groups in a consortium is limited to six (seven if there are partners from Poland or Latvia). Not more than two research groups can be from the same country. It is very important to check eligibility of potential partners.
Topics: 1) To understand the acquisition, persistence/ retention, and transmission of resistant organisms and resistance genes. 2) To identify and target better prevention measures and management practices to control resistance.

JTC Call 2016 - Understanding Welfare Models
Aim: The objective is to develop comparative perspectives on “welfare models”, and the ways in which they are changing, drawing on the great diversity of approaches to welfare across Europe and Canada. A better understanding of these differences can help policymakers to identify potential ways of meeting needs, as their own models evolve in response to changing demographic pressures and circumstances. Because welfare models involve a complex interaction of public, private and voluntary activity, understanding them, their impact and the ways in which they are changing, will draw on expertise from many academic disciplines. Therefore proposals shall have an interdisciplinary nature.
Conditions: only transnational projects will be funded. Each proposal must involve a minimum of three eligible applicants from at least three different countries participating in the call. The maximum number of eligible participants in a project consortium is seven.
Topics: proposals may address one or more of these three research topics:
- Understanding wellbeing: how appropriate are current measures of wellbeing across the changing life-course?
- Intergenerational relationships: how can welfare models distribute resources, rights and responsibilities in fair and sustainable ways?
- Welfare models: How can welfare models secure the health and wellbeing for older people confronted to caring needs, subject to frailty and nearing the end of life?
Budget: 150.000€ for Spanish groups. Accredited Health Research Institutes (Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria acreditados, IIS) must be project coordinator.
