            BJBF Newsletter January 2016

Less than 5 weeks to go....getting excited?

Howdie again folks,
We've got a bunch of exciting news for you in this newsletter!
The 10th anniversary of the Biggest Little Festival in the World
is less than 5 weeks away and everybody here in Boquete is getting really excited with anticipation of another unforgettable event! We hope you are, too.

Today we want to tell you a little more about some of the great spectacles waiting for you but first here's some great news for foreign visitors:

If you haven't booked your flight yet here's great news to save some bucks:

The Panama Tourism Authority is offering a 15% discount on  Copa airlines flights to either Panama City or David for everyone traveling to the 2016 Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival's 10th Anniversary!!

To book your flight go to
www.copaair.com/

Now to the amazing festival treats that are waiting for you at BJBF2016:

Our fabulous street parade and the whole shebang...Like in the years before we will have a New Orleans style street parade  (Thursday, Feb 25 from 12pm to 1pm) but this time you'll be in for a special treat: This year it'll be an incredibly more picturesque event with Panamanian Pollera and Congo dancers, a marching band of the local police and fire brigade plus a group of costumed stilt walkers joining the line!
Just take a look at the pictures below to savor the eye-candy you will get to enjoy! Don't miss to bring a costume and have your cameras ready! We'd love to see you join in and march with us!

The Pollera, traditional Panamanian festive dress    Congo dancers, an African import to Panama

The parade will be followed by a free concert in the central park of Boquete which will include a show of young students of local schools performing on harps and bongos that were donated to our Music for Schools program by LEE OSKAR and MARK LA SMITH. The event will be presented by associate producers Shakura S'Aida and Deanna Bogart, and you'll never know who else of the festival musicians might show up!
Rumour has it that there may be a very interesting surprise band from Italy showing up at the free concert in the park on Thursday and at the Panamonte garden party on Friday....

Immediately after this the fun will go on with an open mic event at the adjacent Baru restaurant. Bring an instrument and sit in jamming with some of the pros!

...and the day is not over yet: The night-owls will flock to Mike's Global Grill at 8pm to rock the night away at the jam session hosted by John Carney and local saxman Rigoberto Coba, and that is just one of our 5 jam sessions!

Pace yourself! This is just the first day that will be followed up by three more days packed with great music and lots of fun!

On Friday, Feb. 26 you may enjoy a wonderful party with live music by Boquete's own
YELLA FEVER band, and a surprise Italian band in the lush tropical garden of the Panamonte hotel, see and hear Shakura S'Aida unplugged at our local communal theater, plus another great jam at Sabor restaurant in Valle Escondido, hosted by Tommy Castro, Deanna Bogart and Ronnie Baker Brooks.

Finally, 4 shows each on the main stage on each day of the festival weekend, followed by another great jam session each day...Saturday jam hosted by Lee Oskar, Curtis Salgado and Shakura S'Aida at The Rock restaurant, Sunday jam hosted by Marshall Keys, Scott Ambush and Alex Brown at Mike's Global Grill.

Already a tradition: Our beautiful annual festival tiles!

Started in 2012 our series of 6"x6" festival tiles have quickly become much sought-after collectible pieces of art. Made by the local TUCAN TILE shop in Boquete. Individual tiles of previous years will also be available at the festival.Price per tile is $20. Get discounts when buying more than 1 tile!

Other festival merchandise will also be available locally. For cost reasons we're unfortunately not able to ship anything from Panama.

Good news for foreign visitors!
Getting to Boquete has become much easier for foreign visitors since COPA Airlines (Panama's international airline) have started direct flights from Tocumen, the international airport of Panama City, to David, the capital of the province of Chiriqui, just 35 minutes by road from Boquete. No more cab rides necessary to get to the domestic airport of Albrook in order to get on an Air Panama flight to David. And it's much cheaper, too! Copa, a Star Alliance member, is serving a large number of cities in the US, and they have a code-share agreement with United. These flights between Tocumen and David v.v. can only be booked in conjunction with an international flight. For purely domestic travel you'd still have to book a flight with Panama's domestic airline Air Panama or go by bus or rental car.
And if you haven't booked your flight yet here's the icing on the cake:

The Panama Tourism Authority is offering a 15% discount on  Copa flights to either Panama City or David for everyone traveling to the 2016 Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival's 10th Anniversary!!
COPA is offering non-stop flights to Panama City from a number of cities in the US and Canada like New Orleans, Houston, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Ft. Lauderdale, Washington D.C., Montreal, Toronto...
To book your flight go to www.copaair.com/
Use coupon #C6705
Offer is valid for travel in economy class between  February 20th and March 4th, 2016. No other promotions apply.

Everybody who rode the Blues Bus to get to BJBF 2015 will be happy to hear that Marie Willis, our bus lady, will do it again! A great way to get from Panama City and Coronado beach to Boquete and back! See Marie's contact info below.

We will have a bus service available running between various Boquete hotels, the Boquete central park and the main stage at Valle Escondido on both days of the festival weekend. A one-way trip is just 1 dollar! (free for musicians). More details with schedules will be published later.
