Did you know that within their first year of graduation, 82% of NMC's graduates, employed in their field of study, live and work in northwest Michigan?

We hear stories every day about NMC students and alumni reinvesting in our community—stories that would not be possible without your support.

I’m thrilled to share with you the story of two NMC students and entrepreneurs who are already returning your investment by launching a locally-conscious business in Traverse City.

Thank you for helping us foster an environment of creativity and entrepreneurship for our students!

NMC Students Launch Delicious New Company, Invest in the Community

Ever wish you could eat creamy cookie dough by the spoonful and not worry about getting sick? NMC students have your solution!

Paramedic student Austin Groesser, 20, and Business and Science student Daniel Fuller, 21, created always-edible, egg-less cookie dough that lets you indulge freely.

After meeting in Larissa VanderZee’s English 111 class last fall, the entrepreneurs joined forces under Austin’s LLC, Big Dipper Dough Co., and launched two flavors of dough.

Austin and Daniel credit NMC, and its essential supporters like you, with bringing them together.

“NMC is a great, economical way to get an education. It’s a great way to network with like-minded people. It’s how I met my business partner,” Austin said.

It’s hard to believe the pair has been in the dough game less than a year. Already their products are sold locally in Tom’s Food Markets and Oleson’s Food Stores, and slated to appear in select Moomers ice cream flavors starting this summer. Cartons of Big Dipper dough will soon line the shelves of 150 stores throughout the Midwest.

Both entrepreneurs praised NMC instructors, and friends like you, for creating an environment that fosters innovation.

“Teachers [at NMC] will come early and stay late, and actually respond to you and help you figure things out,” Daniel said.

“I like how involved the community is,” he continued.
“The math center, the reading center, it’s all really helpful.”

As business owners, Austin and Daniel emulate the work ethic of their instructors and the community commitment of NMC supporters like you. Like their instructors, Austin and Daniel work beyond 9-5 to make sure things are done right.

And, like you, the pair is invested in the community. From their stand at the Village Farmers Market to their working relationship with Traverse City-based Proof Positive Brand Design (owned by NMC Alumnus Eric Campbell), it’s clear that Austin, Daniel, and Big Dipper Dough Co. are rooted here.

So what’s next for Big Dipper Dough Co.? Austin and Daniel will hire employees to keep up with demand and, come spring, will launch three new flavors.

As they expand their business, Austin and Daniel are both committed to continuing their education at NMC.

From their inspiring instructors to the class that brought them together as business partners, the pair knows how integral NMC, and your support, has been to their (sweet) success.
