The Safety Blast
As winter hits Chicago, we would like to reiterate drop off/entry and pick up/dismissal procedures. We will continue to work with the the Local School Council, Alderman's Office, and the Chicago Police Department on student safety concerns.
Please…
- Use the crosswalks. Do not cross your children in the middle of a block whether you are walking or driving.
- Utilize the Kiss "N" Go on Bell Avenue 8-8:30 am.
- Respect school bus drop off and pick up areas on BellePlaine Ave. and Leavitt St.
- Keep crosswalks clear at all times.
- Be considerate and don’t double-park on Bell Ave. at pick up.
- Have regard for our neighbors (no parking in driveways or reserved parking spots).
- Commit to putting away your cell phones (whether you are driving or walking) when you are near school so that you can focus on the safety of all our kids.
And…
Treat everyone with respect. Only with our entire community's cooperation can we make sure everyone is safe. Winter driving can be dangerous, please take your time, be cautious and careful.

Valentine's Day Roses
Valentine's Day Rose Order Forms from the Beta Club went home on Wednesday. Students, teachers, parents can purchase a silk rose for $1.00 and the flower will be delivered to your classroom on Friday, February 13th for distribution. Please submit completed forms to Ms. Hitik and/or Ms. Meegan's mailboxes. All final forms are due by Friday, February 5, 2016.

Coonley Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) Update
As a part of the new CIWP (school improvement plan) format CPS has determined that for the 2015-2016 school year the NWEA MAP test will be the criteria for promotion and placement. The test used for the 2016-2017 school year has yet to be determined (potentially the PARCC). We wanted to make sure that parents were aware of this information as the spring testing session nears.

SelectivePrep’s After School MAP Test Program (for 7th Graders)
Classes at Coonley Elementary will start on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 and run for 8 sessions from 3:45 PM – 5:45 PM. We will need a minimum of 10 students to run the class at Coonley Elementary – so please spread the word. Click here to register NOW.
