What a start to 2016 ...

Wow so much has changed in our little city of Rowlett since 12/26/15.  We know that some of our volunteers and supporters were personally impacted by damage from the storms.  We hope that those of you impacted are well on your way to recovery, of course realizing for some it will take much longer than others.  If there is anything we can do to assist you or your pets, please don't hesitate to let us know.  Also, if you know people impacted who need supplies for their pets, please find out what they need and let us know.

We wanted to take a few moments to thank all of our volunteers and donors who helped in the aftermath from the tornado.  From just minutes after the storm, we had people reaching out to us on Facebook with lost and found animal reports.  The Rowlett Animal Shelter opened that night and stayed open extended hours every day through January 2nd.  We had volunteers at the shelter every day, and we were out in the community distributing pet supplies and searching for animals. The first day the shelter closed was Sunday, 1/3, but we were still out distributing supplies.  The outpouring of support from the community and our followers was AMAZING!  When victims needed something for their pets, we were able to give them the item because it had already been donated or procure it for them from funds that had been donated.

The dedication of our volunteers and support from our donors made this all possible.  Below are just a few of the pictures of how we were able to help.

Financial donations allowed us to purchase outdoor kennels for people who no longer had a fence. Due to the abundance of dog and cat supplies donated, we rented trucks to take the supplies to the impacted areas for distribution.
Open Board Positions

Mark Kmieciak and Jeri Fontenot have decided they can no longer devote their time to serve on the Board of Directors.  Mark recently moved out of the city, and Jeri needed to devote more time to Rockwall Pets and her family.  We thank Mark and Jeri for the many hours they devoted in support of our organization.

The two open positions are Marketing Director and Treasurer.
The Board has decided to fill the remainder of their terms by a vote of the remaining Board members until our annual election in August.  Please let us know no later than February 2nd if you would be interested in filling either of these positions for the next six months.
If you would like to help at our adoption events or get more involved with our group, please send us an email us at fracorps@gmail.com.  We can always use more help transporting the dogs and socializing them at the events.  More volunteers means we can have more dogs at the event!

As we reported last month, our fundraising efforts in 2015 will allow Friends of Rowlett Animals to do even bigger and better things in 2016. In addition, the donations that came in after 12/26/15 will allow us to assist tornado victims and their pets for an extended period of time.   Our first Microchip Clinic has been finalized for Saturday, February 6th from 12-4PM at Premier Vet Care.  Dr. Josh Cope has graciously agreed to partner with us.  He will be offering a low cost vaccination clinic, and we will be offering FREE microchips to any Rowlett resident (only $5 for non-residents).  As we saw after the tornado, having your pets microchipped greatly improves chances for a safe return home.

Alumni Update

We are happy to report that Louise, who was pregnant when she came into the shelter on 11/28/15, was rescued by Emily's Legacy Rescue before her puppies were born.  She was able to have them in a loving foster home before Christmas, and they are doing well.
