JOIN US FOR EATING DISORDER AWARENESS WEEK
FEB 1-7, 2016

Raising Awareness & Hope

After months of planning, Eating Disorder Awareness Week is almost here! We are sending February's newsletter out early because we hope you will join us for these events. Click on all the blue hyperlinks below to learn more. 

Your presence at the Proclamation on Monday morning (FEB 1 at 10 AM) will show decision-makers that Eating Disorders matter! We hope to gather a lot of media attention for the week and already have a number of interviews lined up.

In keeping with our philosophy of access, all events are low-cost or free. Donations will be gratefully accepted throughout the week to support EDSNA's work.

MONDAY, FEB 1:
Proclamation at City Hall (10-10:30 AM): Councillor Bev Esslinger and other dignitaries will officially proclaim the week. 
Light Up the Bridge (8:30 PM-9:30 PM): Meet at Zuppa Cafe for a complimentary hot drink and then walk to watch High Level Bridge light up in purple. We will provide purple candles.

TUESDAY, FEB  2:
Colour_ED (6:30-8:30 PM): A social cafe and colouring event at Remedy Cafe on 109 Street. 10% off all Remedy food/drink. All materials provided. Free.

WEDNESDAY, FEB 3:
ED-ucate (8:30 AM-3:30 PM) A full-day symposium on eating disorders at the Alberta Teachers' Association Building, 11010 142 Street
NOTE: This symposium is almost full. We have 97 registrants so far, including teachers, fitness instructors, healthcare professionals, parents & people with eating disorders. $40 for the full day, includes lunch.

Panel Discussion Just for Healthcare Professionals (6:30 PM-8:30 PM) Dr. Allan Kaplan, one of Canada's top researchers on eating disorders will Skype in from Toronto to discuss his latest findings on the neurology of anorexia, followed by a live panel discussion with eating disorder treatment experts from Edmonton. 
NOTE:
87 healthcare professionals registered to attend so far, including some from Calgary and Red Deer.

THURSDAY, FEB 4:
SHAME LESS (7-9 PM) at The Mercury Room: 
Artists' showcase and cabaret on the themes of recovery, hope and positive body image. $10 suggested donation at the door, but no one will be turned away!

FRIDAY, FEB 5:
Smash_ED (noon-2 PM) on the Alumni Walk, U of A campus. A bathroom scale smashing event! Free. Bring your scale or smash one of ours!
