Membership
I am sharing this information because I think it's useful to see trends. Shoreline, as a whole, is down in membership this year, as is the State in general. These numbers are crucial to our advocacy voice! Try a spring membership campaign and see if we can raise these up... HIGH FIVES to Kellogg for coming in strong this year!!

Focus Day
Amplify Your Voice With a Postcard to Your Legislator
Now that the Legislative session has begun, you will hear a lot about advocacy from WSPTA. You may think advocacy is for someone else, but anyone can be an advocate. Advocacy means to Stand Up, Speak Up, Show Up for all children. Consider broadening your advocacy this year to influence decisions made by sending a postcard to your legislator. Postcards are also available via the FedEx DocStore. Postcards are available for pick up in store or with free delivery (in most areas).
Note: Postcards are only available in packs of 20.
Not Able to Attend Focus Day? Members can complete the personal message portion and send with members that are attending.
Note: Children's activities are not being planned this year.
Here's the bus info. PLEASE share widely this week! If we don't have enough riders by Friday, the bus will be released!!!
PTA & The Law
MON, FEB 8, 2016 AT 6:00 PM
Region 6 PTA & the Law / Bothell
Eastside Foursquare Church, Bothell, WA
Please feel free to bring your dinner and eat before or during class.
Drinks and dessert will be provided.
Doors open at 5:30 pm and the class begins at 6:00 pm
PTA & the Law is a vital training for your entire board and school principal. PTA & the Law deals with state & federal rules and regulations for running a charitable, tax-exempt nonprofit corporation in Washington State and will explain how these rules can and do affect your PTA.
This is one of the most important classes you will take every year.
• Learn what it means to be a non-profit organization registered with the State of Washington. How do you maintain non-profit status? What laws must your PTA obey?
• If you write a newsletter, run a raffle, work on an event with student helpers, serve alcohol at an event, enter into any contracts, file taxes with the IRS, or hold meetings YOU NEED TO ATTEND THIS CLASS!
• Laws and regulations change every year, so whether you went last year or haven’t been in a few years or have never been to this class, this presentation is for any officer or committee chair.
• PTA and the Law attendance by one elected officer per local PTA or council is required by the WSPTA. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet this requirement!
Each PTA/council will receive two PTA & the Law Handbooks only.
- WHEN
- Monday, February 8, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (PST) - Add to Calendar

Still working on a class series in Shoreline for March. Stay tuned!!
Council Needs Your Help
A Reminder: at our meeting in January, we need to elect a nominating committee and find a mid-year financial review committee. Please seriously consider helping us out by raising your hand for one of these jobs. Email me if you are game; I will also ask for people to commit on the 25th.
New Awards!
WSPTA is excited to announce two new awards for which your local PTA or council may apply!
What does advocacy mean at your local PTA or council? Do you have a fantastic advocacy related program, project, activity or event? Help us increase awareness of and participation in advocacy issues at the school, local community, council, region, state, and national level.
What does family and community engagement mean at your local PTA or council? What creative ways do you reach out to students, families, staff, and underserved populations in order to increase family and community engagement and positively impact your community?
Let us recognize your efforts....and share your ideas with other local PTAs and councils around the state!
DEADLINE is March 1, 2016!
How can Council help you? Give us your ideas, your feedback, your needs, concerns, and triumphs.
