Social Anxiety

When succeeding feels horrible.
 

Hi, EFTer. May 2016 be your most amazing year so far!

I'm really not an expert on social anxiety but I understand what a debilitating thing it can be for the people who suffer from it. Some of its symptoms are, among other things: feeling self-conscious, alienated, dread over up-coming events and not being understood.

I wanted to share this resource that I came across and which I felt might be helpful for some of you with this challenge. It's a podcast of an interview with Steve Wells, a well-known psychologist and EFT Practitioner (in fact, he's a bonifide EFT celeb) from downunder.

The angle discussed with the interviewer Sebastiaan van der Schrier (from the Netherlands) is "Fear of Success". As explained in the podcast, this fear has a prominent place in the life of people who are highly uncomfortable in social situations. If they succeed in interacting socially they equate it with feeling awful, as they have in the past in some social situations, so why would they want to succeed? Steve explains a different way to approach it so there are no longer any negative feelings mixed in with the idea of succeeding.

Whether the social anxiety aspect of this recording speaks to your or not, many of us have a "Fear of Success" (which sometimes masquerades as a "Fear of Failure"). They discuss this topic in a general enough way that it concerns everyone and I, personally, got some very interesting insights from listening to it.

Sebastiaan, the interviewer, cured himself of Social Anxiety using EFT and other tools. He is now an EFT Practitioner and he helps others heal from these types of issues. A couple of videos that he has shared on YouTube are below.

He mentions that reducing resistance and finding more self-acceptance (yes, even while you still have this challenge) are the necessary first steps to releasing this issue. See the links to his videos below.

Catch-22

My guess is that Social Anxiety is not going to be a one-minute-wonder for many people. There's likely to be quite a bit of work involved in visiting past experiences, tapping on physical symptoms, releasing and reworking old beliefs and healing all of that but it will SOOOO be worth the effort.

I hope that some of what I've shared above will allow you to take a step in the direction you want to go.
