Doing Business 2016: Measuring Regulatory Quality and Efficiency

Doing Business sheds light on how easy or difficult it is for a local entrepreneur to open and run a small to medium-size business when complying with relevant regulations. It measures and tracks changes in regulations affecting 11 areas in the life cycle of a business: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency and labor market regulation.

This economy profile presents the Doing Business indicators for United Kingdom. To allow useful comparison, it also provides data for other selected economies (comparator economies) for each indicator. The data in this report are current as of June 1, 2015 (except for the paying taxes indicators, which cover the period January–December 2014

Agribusiness eyes Mexico as court debate lifting GM maize ban

“Native maize . . . really has to do with the identity of Mexico,” says Ms Willcox. “The culture of Mexicans was based on the growth of maize . . . that has developed both religious and culinary traditions around [the crop], so it’s almost unthinkable to have a Mexico without the diversity of maize.”

Why Mexico's drug cartels love America's gun laws

More than 70,000 guns recovered from crime scenes in Mexico between 2009 and 2014 could be traced back to the United States, according to a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office. That represents 70 percent of all crime guns recovered and traced in Mexico during that period.

Global trends limit fallout of falling renminbi

In 2003, average hourly earnings in China’s manufacturing sector were just $0.69, barely a third of the $1.95 an hour earned by Mexican workers, according to calculations by Bank of America Merrill Lynch. This year the Chinese figure will hit $3.70 an hour, two-thirds above the $2.20 in Mexico’s manufacturing sector.
