Favorite Fun Facts
It’s no secret I love the history of the Roaring 20’s. I have four novellas set during the time period. While researching for the last couple of stories, I found some fun (and educational) facts I’d love to share. During the Twenties...
Women's fashions changed drastically. Hemlines rose higher, dresses which showed a lot more skin (mainly arms and legs and cleavage) became popular, which many people found scandalous. Women also started wearing makeup, which was formerly considered something only prostitutes did.
As well, for the first time in US history, short hair for women became popular, and many women cut off their hair and bobbed it. These new styles were a big change from longer hair favored worldwide.
Silent films in black and white were the standard, but the 1920s saw the introduction of movies in color, movies with sound, and finally "talkies", movies with actual speech. That was huge, and drew crowds to movie theaters to see the new advances in cinema. Moving pictures had been around for almost 30 years, but movies really took off with the new technology.
Jazz music became huge, and was heard all over the US. And, just as different as the music, was the wild and crazy dances the country had never seen before. It was also the first type of music with African American roots to reach mainstream popularity.
Radio stations made their debut in the 20s. People rushed out to get a radio for their home because, along with music, radios also offered news, and later, serial dramas and entertainment shows. Radio became a major form of entertainment and had a big impact on society. Where people had previously read newspapers for their news about everything from local events to world events, they suddenly had a way to hear about things much more quickly.

Favorite Recipe
If you’re looking for something to go with your New Year’s diet ... this isn’t the place.
HEART ATTACK POTATOES
Ingredients:
. 4-5 medium-large potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
. 1 stick butter (do not use margarine)
. 1 medium onion finely diced (any type, but I prefer vadalia)
. 8 ounces (small tub) herb and garlic cream cheese
. ¾ cup heavy cream (35%)
. 1 cup milk (homogenized, or 2% at least)
. ½ - ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese (real cheese, not the fake stuff)
Instructions:
. Set oven to 350 degrees
. Place thinly sliced potatoes in lightly salted water while you prepare the sauce
. Melt butter in skillet over medium low heat, sauté onions for 3 minutes
. Add cream cheese to pan and melt
. Add heavy cream and milk, stir to combine
. Salt and pepper to taste (be generous)
. Drain potatoes and spread evenly in a 9x13 buttered baking dish, top with sauce, sprinkle with parmesan cheese
. Bake for 45 – 50 minutes; allow to sit for 15 minutes before serving
Variation:
You can also add 1 cup shredded chicken or finely diced ham to the sauces mixture to make this a one-dish meal.

Works-In-Progess
I’m currently awaiting signed contracts on two new books. The first is a contemporary novella for The Wild Rose Press’ Men in Kilts series. Kilty Pleasures is an erotic romance set in New England. The second is a full-length time travel with paranormal elements. Eye of the Pharaoh is set in current day but travels back to 1920’s Egypt.
Celebrations
This past November I was fortunate enough to win not one, but two, International Digital Awards for romance. My 1920’s novella, The Mysterious Mrs. Pennybaker, took first place in the erotic romance novella category and Home is Where the Hunk is finished first in the contemporary novel competition.
