Hello and welcome the Student Newsletter, issue 11. We have some great stuff this week, the announcement of two new awards and yet another addition to the growing prize list! Read on for the scoop!

Two New Awards!

In addition to three 'Best in Category' Winners & an overall winner the AOP is pleased to launch two new Awards at this year’s AOP Student Awards; AOP Lecturer of the Year and AOP Affiliated Course of the Year, and we want you to pick the winners!

These two awards celebrate the wealth of teaching talent and courses there are available to students and are designed to complement the four existing four student awards.

To make a nominations simply read the criteria below and write a proposal of up to one page to us, saying why you think your candidate/ course should win. 
 
The AOP Chair, the Education Working Group and the General Manager will choose the winners and the awards will be presented at the AOP Student Awards at theprintspace gallery in Hoxton, London later this summer.   

Criteria

  • You must be an AOP Student Member (membership is free to all those studying on an AOP Affiliated course, see here) 

Lecturer of the Year 

  • Your candidate must be either a fulltime or visiting lecturer on an AOP Affiliated course
  • You should say how they have helped you develop your professional career 
  • The type of support they offered to you and others over the duration of your course
  • How they have supported you after you left your course (if applicable) 
  • The quality of their teaching, including style and methods 
  • Their communications abilities – illustrate these and how they have helped you and others 
  • How they have shown their understanding of your needs
  • Their understanding of the professional photography industry 
  • How they have inspired you

Course of the Year

  • This must be an AOP Affiliated Course 
  • You should illustrate how the course has challenged you, your work and your preconceptions 
  • The value of the education you have received 
  • The values of the teaching team; for example the ethics, the copyright and business practices they teach 
  • Facilities available to you and other students 
  • Interaction with professional organisations and leading figures in the industry
To nominate the lecturer or course of your choice, please write a statement of up to one page long, along with their name, the name of the course and your name. Please send this via email to Flo Lewis George at flo@aophoto.co.uk

Prizes

So far we have announced two fantastic prizes, loan of the new digital XF IQ3 50 MP Camera system from Phase One for 3 days, from Teamwork Digital & one week's exhibition on the AOP website. This week we are pleased to add another, our Wonderful friends at Holborn Studios have added one days free studio hire, including professional lighting to our prize pot!
