Week of January 19,  2016 | KC Streetcar Update 

KC STREETCAR TESTING
On Monday, the KC Streetcar vehicle #802 under went a full day of testing on Main Street. The remainder of the tests this week will take place at the Kite Singleton Yard and on the "non-revenue' tracks.

Operator training on vehicle #801 started last week and will continue this week in short durations. Once operator training on the vehicle begins full time, the public can expect the streetcars to be making daily trips on Main Street between the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm, at least.  Operator Vehicle Training may also take place at night and during the weekends.

To date, there are 14 individuals going through streetcar operator orientation and training. KC Streetcar maintenance staff has also been hired and currently being trained. 
KC STREETCAR ADVERTISING & SPONSORSHIP

KC STREETCAR + SNOW
The KC Streetcar is an all season vehicle and can operate in snowy conditions unless those conditions are unsafe. The City of Kansas City (Department of Public Works) is responsible for clearing any snow on the tracks and the roadway and perform those functions in line with their standard snow removal procedures.  KC Streetcar Authority contractors are responsible for clearing all of the 16 streetcar platforms.  Click here for a recent video of the KC Streetcar crews at work. 
KC STREETCAR CONSTRUCTION
All work is weather dependent:
  • 7th-12th on Main: streetcar stop electrical work and streetlight tie-in work. 
  • South of 11th Street on Main: WiFi installation for Smart City project. Work to include digging. 
  • Job wide sidewalk pour backs, OCS poor backs, brick restoration, touch-up work continue.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
