From the Sportsmaster

A warm welcome back to everyone and welcome to our new boys starting in the School this year! As we look ahead to what will be a busy year in sport, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some information which will directly affect your son in the first few weeks of this term.

Regular information about sport will be found in the weekly School Newsletters emailed on Fridays.

Please contact me on 8302 5246 if you require any further information. I look forward to providing many enjoyable sporting experiences this term and throughout the year.

Mr P Derrin

Saturday Sport Team Trials (Years 3-6)

Before the start of each season, trials are held to determine the allocation of boys to teams. Trials for Summer Sport teams begin on Friday 29 January and continue on Monday 1 February. Trials are held during school time.

Boys should wear their sports uniform to School on both these days and bring any equipment needed. Please note that the School can provide all necessary gear and safety equipment (except mouthguards).

While most boys will get their first choice of summer sport, it is not guaranteed. All boys are supported and encouraged through this process. Boys who do not receive their first preference will be notified by Monday afternoon, 1 February.

Softball and T-ball players must have a mouthguard and shinpads to take part in games. For safety, soft compound balls will be used during trials.

All boys will continue trials during After School Sport in Week 2. All teams will be allocated after their first afternoon training session. There may be subsequent movement in an effort to grade teams correctly.

Training Days and Times

All training times and days for this term, including voluntary extra-curricular training sessions before school, can be accessed in a printable document by clicking here.

This document (which also appeared in Friday's Newsletter) is a useful summary of sport practices and music rehearsals for Term 1. Click here.

Training (Wet weather)

If there is any doubt that training will be cancelled due to wet weather, please phone 9990 8472 from 1:30pm. Bays are requested to have ‘Plan B’ arrangements in the event of training being cancelled.

Saturday Sport Fixtures (Years 3-6)

Six rounds of Saturday Sport fixtures begin in Week 2 on Saturday 6 February. An up-to-date Fixture List is on the School's website and can be viewed by clicking here. All venue information, including links to Google maps can also be found on the School's website by clicking here.

A printable version of the Fixtures List can be found here. However, please note the printable version will not automatically update if there are changes during the season. Any changes will be notified in the regular Friday School Newsletter.

Saturday Sport leave

Participation is compulsory for Saturday sport, except where a satisfactory medical or religious reason is given. Notes requesting leave from Saturday Sport should be directed to the Sportsmaster and received by the Monday preceding the Saturday for which leave is sought.

Late requests can result in teams having insufficient numbers. The importance of recognising the commitment required to be a part of a team is a high priority of the sporting programme at Sydney Grammar. Please help your son learn the value of being part of a team by honouring this leave system.

Wet weather cancellations

Saturday (Wet weather or Illness)

If there is any doubt about sport being cancelled on a Saturday morning due to wet weather, please phone 9990 8472 from 6.45am. Should a boy become ill after School on Friday afternoon please phone the Sportsmaster 8302 5246 between 6.45 and 7.15am on Saturday.
