Baby Season!

Busy Fall Birthing Season: We had a busy birthing season this Fall with 5 new arrivals. All babies came into the world before their due dates, but healthy. Two male and three female cria are pronking around the pastures.

The baby pictured above was significantly earlier than normally accepted and born to a first time mom while Mike and I were away from the farm. Our lovely neighbors and nearby alpaca farmers along with our vet helped save this boy during his first 24 hours. He was born healthy as stated above, but for the first time since we've had alpacas, the new mom was not ready to be a mom. I believe the pre-term delivery had quite a bit to do with it. After some difficult days, we were able to successfully bond mom and baby! She is a very attentive mom now. We bottle fed to supplement nursing and then began hand feeding to supplement nursing once he started to refuse the bottle. He's fully on his own now, both nursing and eating from the feeders with the adults. He's a beautifully fleeced animal out of our Champion Female named Canopa's Glory Be and our stud, Snowmass Lover's Legend. We can't wait to see how this guy develops.

Looking forward to Spring: Spring is just a few short months away and we are expecting 2 cria in April. Both cria will be sired by Snowmass Lover's Legend who is the sire to all 5 of our beautifully fleeced Fall cria.

Slow Fashion at its Finest

They Get It!: Slow or sustainable fashion is really starting to get more recognition on a larger scale. I came across Zady online while doing some research on my daydream of owning a small retail shop selling only sustainable fashion. I love the concept and raising animals that provide the quality fiber that alpacas provide furthers my desire. It is my daydream! To discover a company that gets it AND offers clothes that I would actually wear and don't look either homemade or too high fashion, I was hooked into getting their newsletter.

Check this link to Zady and understand more fully what slow fashion is and why it is important to consider adding a couple of slow fashion pieces into your wardrobe each season. They are more expensive, that is true, but they will last many, many years. I often have to help customers understand what goes into our products including the yearlong growth of the fiber, the manpower behind harvesting the fiber, and the environmentally-friendly process of cleaning the fiber and turning it into workable yarn, etc. The quality workmanship of each piece is what helps add longevity of each piece.

Until my daydream because reality, I will continue to provide high quality alpaca garments in The Farm Store and add to my personal wardrobe from The Farm Store and from Zady and others out there that truly get it. I keep telling myself: DON'T QUIT YOUR DAYDREAM!
