From Our Executive Director

Dear Global Philadelphian,

Twenty days in to the New Year, we are pleased to reach out to our internationally minded audience with a new look and a refreshed "Insider".

As the association grows in membership and scope, we view it as necessary to focus our member's news in to separate categories, making easier to find the information you may be looking for. This is a work in progress and we welcome any remarks from you, our valued audiences.

A new feature comes from the Consular Corps of Philadelphia - a wonderful resource representing 33 countries with specific representation here in Philadelphia. As we salute and say goodbye to outgoing leader Krista Bard, we are delighted to welcome Peter Longstreth the new President and to have him share a monthly column with us on the work of the group that inherently showcases Philadelphia to the world.

Speaking of new leadership, we of course welcome our new Mayor, Jim Kenney the 99th leader to hold such office.  We are glad to support and work with his staff on immigrant initiatives, global business and of course World Heritage. We wish him much success as he starts his new term in office. There are many other new leaders in the city, watch our news and web page as we share their details and welcome them to their respective global roles in Philadelphia.
As Philadelphia continues to thrive and evolve, we are thrilled to bring to you news of many of the events that are a part of the momentum seen in the region. Specifically, we encourage you to reach out to us with your news of global events and activities, so that we can share them with our audience of Global Philadelphian's.  Take a look at the statistics garnered from the Global Expo last Fall, GlobalPhilly15 and you will see the growth and extent of our reach in the region.

For the most visibility and insider news on activities at Global Philadelphia, please consider becoming a member of our association. Your membership will support our nonpartisan non profit as it continues to foster collaboration with a global message among many different organizations.  You will also be supporting the all important World Heritage City effort. Our hope is to bring together people of all ages, backgrounds, and perspectives, to share in the rich global facets of the Philadelphia region. We are currently engaged in a strategic process that will lead to city wide messaging of what World Heritage means for every Philadelphian and for your organization.

I look forward to meeting with you soon and to sharing with you our member's events and learning more about yours. Welcome to Global Philadelphia!

Sincerely,
Zabeth Teelucksingh

Consular Corps of Philadelphia

As the newly elected President of the Consular Corps of Philadelphia (CCAP), I am delighted to express our appreciation to Global Philadelphia for this opportunity to contribute a monthly column to “The Insider”, a newsletter which reaches over 2500 Global Philadelphians. CCAP is a founding member of your dynamic organization and we are honored to play an active role in this regular communication.

By way of introduction, CCAP is the oldest association of foreign consuls in the United States and currently includes 37 Members representing countries from around the world. Like any association, CCAP’s fundamental responsibility is to support its members in order to maximize their individual effectiveness.

Members’ consular duties range from providing foreign citizens with administrative services to promoting business, cultural and governmental relationships to meeting the needs of visiting dignitaries.

While Italy, Israel, Mexico and Panama operate General Consulates staffed by career diplomats, the remaining members
are Honorary Consuls who represent their respective countries on a volunteer basis.
CCAP is a 501(c)(3) corporation governed by a four member Executive Committee elected each year and funded by dues, contributions and sponsorships. CCAP services to its members include regular meetings, workshops, seminars and events, as well as centralized contact through a web-site and newsletter. We also partner with other international organizations, like Global Philadelphia, and provide financial assistance to selected educational and cultural organizations in our region.

In future columns, we look forward to highlighting specific CCAP events and initiatives. Individual Members will also share their comments and opinions with Global Philadelphia’s important audience.

Thanks again for including our voice in “The Insider” and Happy 2016!

Peter S. Longstreth
