Introducing: Dr. Svitlana Zbarska!



Do you want to get involved in research but are unsure how or where to start? Would you like to someone to actually explain to you what research is? Have you been participating in research on campus and now are interested in doing summer research elsewhere? Do you want to chat with someone about how to present your research? Come in and meet with Svitlana!
 
Dr. Svitlana Zbarska is Iowa State’s new Undergraduate Research Program Coordinator. She have been at ISU for fourteen years, where she earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience with Excellence in Research. She conducted research as an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and as a postdoc in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology. During this time, she supervised undergraduate research students including honors students, summer and SULI interns. Over the last several years she served as the Mid-West representative of the ISU Postdoctoral Association and the chair of the organizational committee for the Postdoctoral Research Symposium. Svitlana’s mission in her new role is to “develop effective, centralized and structured program which will help undergraduate students to be involved in mentored research and creative projects of their interests at Iowa State University.” Svitlana is currently recruiting students to participate in Research in the Capitol and the Symposium on Undergraduate Research & Creative Expression. Donuts with the Director is BACK: Stop in to Jischke this Friday for donuts with Laurie!

When you're on campus this Friday morning, stop in to Jischke to meet Laurie and have a donut or 7 with her! This will be the first of several Donuts with the Director events this spring - stop in between 8:00-10:00am for socializing and sprinkles.

Tell 'Em What You Know!

Two upcoming events offer opportunities for you to share your work with a wider audience and to gain presentation experience. If you are involved in mentored research, think about submitting an application to:

Research in the Capitol will take place in the Rotunda of the Iowa Statehouse on March 28, 2016. Twenty undergraduate students each from ISU, UNI and UI will be chosen to display posters and discuss their research, highlighting the importance of undergraduate research to legislators, reporters, and top university administrators. Information about the submission process for prospective participants can be found at http://www.undergradresearch.iastate.edu/present/capitol.php. The submission deadline for Research in the Capitol is February 1, 2016.

ISU's 9th annual Symposium on Undergraduate Research & Creative Expression will take place in the Memorial Union on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. The Symposium is a professionally-styled conference in which students make oral presentations supported by PowerPoint at faculty-moderated sessions or present a poster at the Poster Session from 3-5 p.m. on April 5. More information about the Symposium and the submission process for prospective participants can be found at http://www.undergradresearch.iastate.edu/symposium/. The submission deadline for the Symposium is February 12, 2016.
