THE 90-YEAR-OLD HOCKEY ANNOUNCER
Our pal, hockey announcer Bob Chase turns 90 on Friday. During an on-ice tribute last week, Chase was surprised by NBC’s lead hockey play-by-play man Mike Emrick. Chase was Emrick's role model growing up in Fort Wayne and eventually, his mentor, critiquing and encouraging Emrick along his journey. In this Growing Bolder story, Chase explains how much the two have meant to each other and reveals how the offer of a “temporary” job as play-by-play announcer for the Fort Wayne Komets has lasted an incredible 64 years!
