A 'truly wonderful man and exceptional teacher' - tributes to Darlington tutor Brian Hunter   Brian Hunter earned the respect of his peers and pupils after dedicating 33 years to his role as a tutor and pastoral leader at Carmel College, Darlington. He died earlier this week following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Schools Northeast   Carl Faulkner, Head Teacher at Normanby Primary School, sent us a "Rambling Rant" for this week's Talking Heads. 

Mr Faulkner said: "I certainly think the teachers and support staff, and perhaps most significantly the ‘School Business Managers’ I meet in different schools have never worked harder. The Government say jump, we say ‘how high?’."

Schools Northeast   A survey conducted by Diversity Role Models found that 64% of pupils were aware of "some bullying at school that was about being LGBT", with almost a third of pupils stating that it is not safe to be openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender at their school. A small proportion (8%) said it is completely unsafe to be openly LGBT at their school. Of the 1,102 secondary school respondents, 78% identified as heterosexual, 14.5% identified as either not sure or lesbian, gay or bisexual. Nearly 4% did not identify with any gender. Read more >
