Narratives tell the story of adaptation
A new set of climate change narratives will set our individual adaptation indicators in context, and draw conclusions from reading across related indicators.
The first narrative looks at how some plants, animals and insects will be unable to thrive in their current locations as the climate changes. It also lists adaptation options and adaptation actions that are being taken in this area.

Electrical and thermal energy storage
Energy storage is likely to be an increasingly important part of the transition to deliver clean, affordable and secure supplies of energy. In particular, there is a need to understand the potential for storage integration across the whole energy system (power, heat and mobility).
Two new reports look at the state of technological and market development in the context of Scotland’s energy policy ambitions. They cover thermal energy storage and electrical energy storage respectively. There is also a summary across the two reports.

Improving energy productivity
To date few governments have developed coherent national energy productivity programmes. This report analyses policies and programmes in a range of countries, and industry case studies to provide insights into how energy productivity can be promoted.
It summarises the variety of policies and primary legislation, regulations, codes, financial incentives, grants and institutional arrangements that have been used to encourage energy productivity, and also lists some opportunities for Scotland in this area.

Heating demand
Climate change may change the demand for heating and cooling in Scotland. In two new reports we look at heating demand to provide background for our adaptation indicators relating to energy demand.
The first report quantifies expected future changes in Heating Degree Days (HDD)
This report provides a summary of the factors that influence energy demand for heating

A framework for public conversations about climate change
The Scottish Government has asked ClimateXChange to manage a research project to develop and pilot a framework for a Climate Change Public Conversations Series.
The framework will include materials and a guide for community groups and others to run conversations about climate change with the public.
A series of focus groups are underway.
