International Book Giving Day takes place on February 14th each year. The aim is to get books into the hands of as many children as possible. Individuals are invited to 1) gift a book to a friend or family member, 2) leave a book in a waiting room for children to read or 3) donate a gently used book to a local library, hospital or shelter or to an organization that distributes used books to children in need internationally.

Please visit The Children's Peace Education & Anti-Bias Library for a list of suggested books. The heart of anti-bias work is a vision of a world in which all children are able to blossom, and each child’s particular abilities and gifts are able to flourish.

This month CLC will display classroom children's books that reflect our wonderful diversity. We invite our families to check the books out for some home reading time!

Connecting Kids with
Black History

African American History Month, also called Black History Month, is a month-long commemoration of African American history and achievement that takes place each February in the United States. It was begun in 1976.

In the spirit of honoring African American pioneers and landmark events in black history, engage your children in activities that capture their senses. Whether reading books, listening to music or making soulful meals, there are plenty of fun ways for kids to learn about the African American experience. And remember, your children can enjoy these activities long after February is over!

Lunar New Year-
February 8, 2016
Lunar New Year: Chinese Chunjie, Vietnamese Tet, Korean Solnal, Tibetan Losar, also called Spring Festival. Lunar New Year festival typically celebrated in China and other Asian countries that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar, 15 days later. The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, so the dates of the holiday vary slightly from year to year, beginning sometime between January 21 and February 20 according to Western calendars.
Please join us in celebrating on February 8th by visiting the display table in the lobby from 8-10 a.m.
