Welcome to the SpringE

From the Headmistress

Dear Parents

I am hoping for some dry weather in the next few weeks and an early Spring with sunshine to try and dry out the mud. Our cross country running club this week was much enjoyed by the children but was more in line with bog snorkling!

Thank you in advance to all our guides, both children and adult, for Open Morning tomorrow.

Have a restful weekend!

South Pole Journey

Year Six enjoyed dressing for the Antarctic this week and looked at clothing from 1914 and more modern Polar fabrics before writing poems using imagery to describe Shackleton's journey towards the South Pole. This is Lily's poem.

Ice Structures
The Tadpoles and Ducklings have had great fun exploring ice cubes. We built ice towers and observed the changes that happened as the ice began to melt.

Digit Skills
This week in Maths, Year One have been working with bead strings to find and make two digit numbers, counting in groups of ten. The children enjoyed using the bead strings and it has helped their counting and place value skills.

Let's Go Fly A Kite
This week Early Years took advantage of the wild and windy weather and had fun flying a kite on the paddock. There were lots of giggles and laughter from all the children whilst running after Miss Powell trying to catch the kite.

Spotty Brownies
The Brownies have created Aboriginal dot paintings to celebrate Australia Day on 26 January.

Sport
U8/9's Football match RGS Springfield v Winterfold House School. Our boys won their match scoring six goals in a strong second half performance.

Alistair McCabe was the Year Three man of the match.

Lukas Twiehaus was  the Year Four man of the match.

Springfield hosted The Downs School this week, playing U9 and U8 netball matches. The girls battled against strong winds and cold conditions to play some fast and exciting netball. It was great to see players from both teams growing in confidence throughout the match, which was broken up by lots of coaching. A big thank you to Daisy Leek who played for the U8's as they were a player short. Both teams suffered defeats but the U8's were unlucky to lose by just one goal. Well played everyone
