FOALAUCTION PRINSJESDAG POSSIBLY A TWO DAY EVENT

In order to offer even better service to buyers and sellers, the management of Prinsjesdag National Foal Auction is considering to extend the auction with another day. The intention is to auction showjumping foals on Tuesday 13 September and to reserve the next day, Wednesday 14 September, for the dressage foals.
This new format would remove a lot of pressure from the time schedule, which will offer more time and a more relaxed atmosphere for the presentation of the foals and the ever more important veterinary assessment. Arjan van der Waaij, chairman of Prinsjesdag Foal Auction, believes that extending the auction with another day offers many advantages. “The fact is that on the Prinsjesdag auction day we have to fight against the clock from early morning to late at night. The time interval between the dressage foals auction in the afternoon and the showjumping foal auction in the evening is rather short, giving visitors little time to look at the showjumping foals which are at that time presented outside. When we were to spread the auction over two days, we could possibly also accept a few extra foals, provided that they meet the high selection criteria, of course”, he explains.
The intention is that on both days the foals will be presented to the buyers in the middle of the afternoon and the auction will start at the end of the afternoon. “The disadvantage is that people who are interested in the showjumping and the dressage foals have to come to Ermelo for two consecutive days, but we believe that this is a relatively small group. It is a choice we have to make, but we have grown enormously over the past few years precisely because we made clear choices. For the breeders this is also a clear signal: both for the dressage and the showjumping foals Prinsjesdag Foal Auction offers a worthy platform where top-class quality is offered to an international public”, says Van der Waaij.
Prinsjesdag National Foal Auction is very curious about the opinion of the participants and visitors and the Prinsjesdag Foal Auction team in the stand at the KWPN stallion selection would gladly hear their reactions.

From 2 till 5 February the Foalauction Prinsjesdag will be present at the KWPN Stallion Approvals in Den Bosch. We would like to invite all breeders, buyers and people who are interested in the auction to visit our stand and have a drink with us. For the breeders it’s also possible to enter their (unborn) foal for the selection of 2016, nice prizes presented by our partners will be raffled.

EGBERT SCHEP: 'SEVERAL EXCITING PURCHASES AT THE FOALAUCTION PRINSJESDAG'

No year goes by or showjumping horse dealer and breeder Egbert Schep from Tull en ‘t Waal makes investments at the Prinsjesdag National Foal Auction. “Prinsjesdag stands for quality foals with interesting backgrounds and mares lines that produce fine sport horses. That is their focus and that is why they are so expensive, which, I admit, is a disadvantage”, he laughs.
“Buying foals is great, but to make a living out of them is relatively hard. In my case I have to buy them in conformity with the market and I have to be careful which ones I pick out. If I am really crazy about a certain foal and I know the mares line well, then I am willing to pay some 17,000 euro, in the hope that the future will prove me right. Fortunately, that has happened several times already.”
At the Prinsjesdag Foal Auction Egbert Schep discovered several colts that would later be licensed, such as Alicante HBC (Casall x Indoctro, breeder R. Nowee from Oude Niedorp) as the oldest. This grey stallion is starting at international 1.45/1.50m level and in January jumped in the CSI5* Basel under Jérome Guery.
Last year Schep had two stallions licensed under the KWPN, including the highly promising Hernandez TN (Kannan x Numero Uno, breeder Willem Dekker from Benningbroek) who has since been bought by Team Nijhof. The other is Highlander (Numero Uno x Lupicor, breeder M.A.M. Lamers-Couwenberg from Heide), who Schep still owns himself, together with Jos Althuyzen.
Who knows what we will hear in the future of his four purchases in 2015. Then Egbert Schep bought Kentucky L (Ferdeaux x Goodtimes), Lisbon (London x Clinton), Quitane (Quickly de Kreisler x Numero Uno) and Tocar (Toulon x Contender).

AUCTIONING EMBRYO'S ON EMBRYOAUCTION.COM IS SUCCESSFULL

After the sale of several embryos via the auction site www.embryoauction.com this new initiative of Foalauction Prinsjesdag can be considered a success. The embryo’s, with highly interesting pedigrees, are dispatched all over the world.
In 2015 Foalauction Prinsjesdag decided no longer to accept embryo’s for the foal auction. “Although embryo’s are in good demand, they often cause an emptiness in the sales ring. There is often no horse to show at all, but you have to make do with video recordings of the sire, dam or closely related sport horses”, explains Arjan van der Waaij. “We now add embryo’s to the site all through the year and bring these to the attention of the buying public.”
The embryo’s that are accepted for the online auction have undergone a very stiff selection process. “They must have a really extraordinary background. Their pedigree must be so special that they are hard to come by as a foal”, says Van der Waaij.
The two embryo’s that are currently online are therefore no small fry. One descends from top-class progenitor Kannan out of a 1.35m level jumping daughter of Cella (by Cento), the former top horse of Ben Maher (GBR). The other is by the best breeding dressage sire in the world, De Niro, out of the Grand Prix mare Sisther de Jeu (by Gribaldi).
Next week another will be added to the website: a Glasgow van ‘t Merelsnest out of the full sister of the Grand Prix stallion Montreal VDL and a half-sister of VDL Bubalu, the fantastically jumping stallion which under Jur Vrieling helped winning Dutch team gold at the WC in 2014 and team silver in the 2012 Olympics. Glasgow, bred out of the full sister of the illustrous, top-class mare Sapphire ridden by McLain Ward, jumped into fourth place in the 1.55m GP of Indoor Drachten even last Sunday.

WIMPHOF'S HINDE IMPRESSES IN FIRST CSI3* GRAND PRIX IN DRACHTEN

The only nine-year-old Wimphof’s Hinde made an exceptional debut at CSI3* Grand Prix level in Drachten last Sunday. Ridden by Dutch rider Marriët Hoekstra, the daughter of Berlin x Heartbreaker showed her tremendous potential, despite one light rail down. In 2007, Hinde became top-seller at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.
The purchase of Hinde de la Vie, bred by Eric Goossens, at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag in 2007 turned out to be a fantastic investment by the Wimphof stables of C. Kramer. Besides her wonderful results at international level, Hinde also produced a now four-year-old daughter by Mr. Blue: Miss Wimphof. Last Sunday in Drachten, Marriët Hoekstra and Wimphof’s Hinde proved to have all the potential. From start to finish, Hinde showed her amazing reflexes, enormous scope and fantastic mind and attitude. One light knockdown could not spoil the fun, since both rider and horse made a fantastic debut in a 1.55m CSI3* Grand Prix.

NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD PABLO MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE FOR AVA McCOUBREY

A dream came true for fourteen-year-old Canadian rider Ava MacCoubrey when she competed Pablo in Wellington last week. With the now nineteen-year-old Pablo, Ava competed in her first international dressage show for junior riders sections and started off with a victory and a second place.
The Prinsjesdag-sold Pablo (Cordial Medoc x Voltaire) contributed to Ava’s dream coming true. Thanks to the money of a fundraising, the young Canadian was able to compete in Wellington. Ava MacCoubrey does not come from a horse family at all, but her parents do anything to give her all the opportunities in dressage. “I have three jobs to pay for her riding,” Ava’s mother states. “It is my pleasure!”
Ava’s and Pablo’s goal for 2016 is to represent the Ontario Junior Team in Kentucky in July this year. With a score of 65.72 percent and 65.55 percent, respectively, and a win and a second place in Wellington, Ava and Pablo seem to be on the right track!

TALENTED STALLION HEAVY METAL INVITED FOR THIRD PHASE BWP STALLION APPROVALS

The four-year-old Heavy Metal earned a ticket to the third phase of the BWP Stallion Show last Saturday in Lier. Last year, this son of Eldorado van de Zeshoek out of the full sister of world-famous showjumper Tyson became the champion of the sBs Stallion Show. As a foal, Heavy Metal already stood out and was auctioned on Foal Auction Prinsjesdag.
On the BWP Stallion Show, Heavy Metal again impressed with his great reflexes, enormous power and scope. Heavy Metal is a perfect example of a product sold at Foal Auction Prinsjesdag; in addition to his great type and strong movements, Heavy Metal was bred out of a true performance damline. His dam Whisper Queen is none other than the sister of Leon Thijssen’s long term number one horse Tyson. Breeders Evert Meijer and Gerard Lindeboom auctioned many foals from this quality damline, including three foals from Whisper Queen, six foals from Kickyqueen – Tyson’s dam – and many others.
Besides Heavy Metal, many other foals sold by breeders Meijer and Lindeboom at Prinsjesdag developed to be highly successful performers. The KWPN-approved Edinburgh and still successful international showjumper This Lux are great examples. Heavy Metal seems to have everything to follow in the footsteps of his famous relatives Tyson, Nirvana, This Lux, Tadmus and Edinburgh.
