Glorify God

Ash Wednesday Service, February 10 at 7:00 PM

We begin the season of Lent with the sign of ashes. Join us for a contemplative service of Scripture and prayer, music and silence on Ash Wednesday, February 10 at the Forbes House.

"Here comes God's kingdom!"

Lenten sermon series on the Gospel of Mark, beginning February 14

“Now is the time! Here comes God’s kingdom! Change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!” These are the first words we hear from Jesus in the Gospel of Mark. Join us each Sunday in Lent as we search for glimpses of the kingdom in the gospel and in our lives.

Lenten Lunches begin February 10

Each Wednesday at noon during Lent, join friends and neighbors for the annual Lenten Lunch series. Sponsored by the Montevallo Area Ministerial Association, we gather each week at Montevallo First United Methodist Church for a soup lunch and a message by an area pastor.

Setting the Table: Communion volunteers

Preparing the table for communion before Sunday worship is a simple yet meaningful way you can contribute to our community of faith. It takes just a few minutes to prepare the bread and cup before the service and then to clean up following. Interested in serving in this way? Contact Vicky Hager at v.hager4@gmail.com to learn more or click here for our online sign up.

Sunday School Series: Forty Days

Before there is light there is darkness. Before there is birth, there is pain. Before every meaningful moment there is a time of preparation, a time of longing. Lent is the forty days that we set aside to enter into the wilderness of our souls and find that place of quiet, openness and emptiness. Lent is more than about self-denial and giving up indulgences, it is about preparation and encounter. It was in the desert where Jesus encountered the demons of his deepest temptations, but it was also where he found God’s sustaining presence and love.

Beginning February 14, join us each Sunday at 10 am for this film-based series. We hope this series will give you a place to begin the journey of your hearts, a journey that will lead you out of Lent and to Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and into the hope of Easter.

Women's Fellowship Dinner

Our women's fellowship dinner will not meet in February, since our regular meeting time falls on Ash Wednesday. We'll get back together for chips, salsa, and conversation in March!

Grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat at the men's fellowship breakfast on Saturday, February 13 at 8 AM at the Eclipse on Main Street in Montevallo.

Book Discussion, February 28

How do you write a biography of someone known only through Scripture, especially when the four Gospels do not agree on important aspects of his life and death? Susan Gubar tells the stories of a wide variety of Judases depicted in art, music and literature over the centuries. Find out more here and join us for discussion on Sunday, February 28 at 4 PM at the Forbes House.

Homemade gumbo and chicken and rice soup will be on the menu for our lunch after church on Sunday, February 28! Come enjoy conversation and laughter over a a bowl (or two or three) of some delicious wintertime fare.

Open Table, Thursday, February 4

Each Thursday, you'll find the Forbes House student center filled with UM students. Some are laughing around a table, others quietly eat while catching up on homework, still others crash on the sofa for a short break between classes. They all enjoy the hot, homemade meals provided by local churches. On Thursday, February 4, MPC will be serving up a baked potato bar with lots of fixings. Can you help serve? Please sign up at the church or contact Leanne at leanne.mpc@gmail.com.

First Light - February 6

MPC will provide dinner for the women and children of First Light on Saturday, February 6. If you'd like to volunteer to prepare food or serve, please sign up at the church or contact Jim Chomicz at jimchomicz@gmail.com.
