CAP, Whats Cooking? - Saturday 9th April 2016.

The Slow Food Youth Network is working in partnership with Nourish Scotland to deliver a special project based around the Common Agricultural Policy. The objective of the 'CAP, What’s Cooking?' Project is to make the new CAP more ‘digestible’ so that young people get a better understanding of this policy and of the future of agriculture, food and rural areas.

CAP, What's Cooking? is a unique, one-day event at Whitmuir farm near Edinburgh on Saturday the 9th of April, for everyone who likes food.

Through thought-provoking talks, engaging discussions, and practical workshops we will explore who feeds Scotland, both now and in the future. This will be accompanied by delicious local and seasonal food!

Follow the 'CAP, What's Cooking? in Scotland' Facebook page to hear more about the event.

If you'd like to get involved with helping to volunteer with the organisation for this exciting event please email sfynscotland@gmail.com.

Slow Food Youth Network Scotland: What the Food?

Our first event of the year included lovely food from Cafe Milk at the Fruitmarket Gallery, a screening of Food Inc, a chance to meet new people and some discussion about the connections between global and local food issues.

Our events planned for the rest of the year will loosely follow a progression from plate to field and we will record and share our journey online. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for dates of these events. We're currently planning:
  • farm visits
  • talks from food industry entities and individuals
  • film showings
  • short workshops

We'd love you to get involved, so please do tell us "What have you always wanted to know about food In Scotland, but have been too afraid to ask?!"

Give us suggestions and we'll try to investigate and include in our series of events. Feel free to ask questions using our Twitter and Facebook pages using the hashtag #WhatTheFood?

If you'd like to volunteer to help to plan these events throughout the year, we shall be holding a meeting very soon. Please email sfynscotland@gmail.com for more information.
What is the Slow Food Youth Network?

The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is an international network of young people who bring about changes in the field of food production and consumption. It was founded by a number of enthusiastic and motivated young people with a passion for good, clean and fair food, and with an interest in sustainability issues.

We are the world's future leaders, entrepreneurs, farmers and consumers. The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) was founded to make youth familiar with Slow Food's philosophy that says that all food should be Good, Clean and Fair. This means that food should be prepared with care and respect, grown as sustainable as possible and that the farmers and producers should get a fair wage.

SFYN raises awareness among young citizens and consumers to encourage and mobilize them in making responsible choices. It wants them to take part in the public debate about current issues, such as how to feed the world, what to do about food waste, and how to produce food as sustainable as possible.
