Seize your chance to do something extraordinary...
New innovative funding opportunity for ARC England members and training update from successful 2015/16 bursary winner!

Last year, RLO made a Bursary award of £5,000 open to all member organisations of the Association for Real Change (ARC). This year RLO have kindly extended the same opportunity to you, our members, but this time the scope is even wider! Whilst your application might well be for training, any creative or inspiring idea that benefits the people you support will be considered by the panel. See here for more information and how to apply for the Bursary.  This is your chance to do something different - so get your creative idea down on paper and apply!

*Please note that to be eligible for this funding you must have paid your ARC membership for 2015/16, and you must renew your membership for 2016/17 by the bursary closing date of 30th April 2016.

ARC members Heart of England Mencap were one of our successful applicants last year - they were awarded £1,000 for Forest School training, to enable the people they support to visit forests and woodlands, learning personal, social and technical skills.

Heart of England Men
cap began running their course in September 2015, and their teacher, Katie, has been learning all there is to know about Forest Schools! We caught up with Cath Errington (Fundraiser at HoE Mencap) who filled us on the great results of the training project so far.

"We made contact with a local primary school, who have their own woodland, and kindly offered it to us to use for our sessions. We had an initial taster session there in January, run by the children, who shared their knowledge with our customers. The first session went really well, with the customers really engaging, and keen to do it again!" Read more.
Main stories
CQC Inspection - Sharing Good Practice - examples from ARC England members

We know that every care provider strives for the Outstanding rating at CQC inspection, so we thought here at ARC we would ask some of our members who have received an 'Outstanding' in one or more of the KLOE's to share their stories and experience.

We are very grateful to our members Kate Allen, Kingwood Trust, Sonia Simon and Christine Aslan, Yarrow Housing, and Leigh-Anne Smith at Polesworth Homes for sharing the stories of their outstanding projects and service delivery with us. See here to find out more .

We want to hear from more members who are willing to share their experience in future. Also we understand that receiving a less than good rating can be a stressful time, remember we are here to support you to address any areas of concern with our innovative training solutions. Lastly, we attend the CQC trade association meetings, so please let us know if there is anything you wish us to raise on your behalf.

Learning Disabilities Mortality Review (LeDeR) Programme

The LeDeR Programme follows the Confidential Inquiry into premature deaths of people with Learning Disabilities (CIPOLD) and aims to make improvements to the lives of people with learning disabilities by identifying issues that may have contributed to a person's premature death, and working to ensure that these are not repeated .

Within the programme some deaths will be subject to a themed priority review. In 2016, these will be deaths of people from Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) communities and those of young people aged 18-24 years.

LeDeR are establishing two Review Panels to review these deaths, and would like to invite family members, social care professionals, advocates and people with learning disabilities to send in expressions of interest to join the review panels.

There is further information about the role and how to apply in this leaflet and for an easy read version see here.
'To move care from secure units to the community, local authorities, providers and families need to work together'

Commissioning will be key in changing learning disability care - High quality, sustainable support is vital for the 2,500 people with learning disabilities and autism in settings like assessment and treatment units, and for the 24,000 the NHS identifies as being at risk of inpatient admission. Help to stop Government plans to scrap Attendance Allowance - a petition

In the Local Government Finance Settlement 2016/17 (published just before Christmas), it was suggested that there are plans to abolish all new claims for Attendance Allowance in favour of allocating the money over to local councils instead, to pay for support for older people.

Although a 'shake-up' of Attendance Allowance was expected, this severe revision could mean the end of access to this benefit for people who need it most.

Have your say - follow the link to sign the online petition against this move. 10,000 signatures results in a Govt. response and 100,000 with a debate.. have your say today.
