1:30:4:00 AGM

Bicycle Nova Scotia will host its 33rd AGM on Sunday, February 14th, 2016.

The theme of our AGM will be “Nova Scotia Loves Bicycles,” partly because we are hosting the AGM on Valentines Day and partly because we know much of the work we need to do involves getting more people on bicycles and ensuring that there are safe routes and roads to ride. We are also excited to host the AGM in Truro at the Douglas Street Recreation Centre, particularly as we do our best to represent cyclists from across Nova Scotia.

In the past we have had workshops prior to the AGM. This year we will start with a ride because we have spent a lot of time in meetings this year. Anyone wishing to ride in the morning should arrive by 10:30 and we will explore the trails of Victoria Park. Fat tires encouraged!

AGM highlights will include:

  • Member input into our Strategic Planning process
  • Launching of a new province wide bicycle club
  • Updates from our various sectors
  • Voting on bylaw changes
  • Progress on the Blue Route implementation and plans for 2016.
  • Discussion on how to improve our competitive sector, engage more people in racing, and streamline the process for race results.
  • Election of new directors
  • And more…

Women On Wheels Workshop

As a result of our winning the 2015 October Trails Challenge through Halifax Parks and Recreation, the Musquodoboit Harbour Women on Wheels group is hosting a free workshop at the Musquodoboit Library, on Saturday, February 20 (snow date February 27).

The workshop will take place from noon until 2pm and will be preceded, weather permitting, by a short ride on quiet roads in the community.

You are encouraged to bring your bicycle so you can work along with the instructors and will be able to ask questions pertaining to your bike.

The plan is to review the ABC pre-ride check and practice fixing a flat tire. We will also discuss cleaning and lubing our bikes to get ready for spring.

This is an open workshop, so please feel free to bring along a friend.

Velo Cape Breton

Of course every year our ride schedule is full of opportunities to ride our fantastic island. But this year we've packaged together a number of unique opportunities to enjoy this experience.

We are hosting two fully supported tours this year, scheduled back to back so that you can choose to do one or both. The Cabot Trail in Four Days goes from Sunday, July 24 to Wednesday, July 27 and the Tour de Lac from Friday, July 29 to Monday, August 1. Each tour includes a support vehicle, hotel accommodations, meals and snacks, and engaging tour hosts. The CT4D costs $495.00/per person double accommodation and the Tour de Lac is $485.00 per person double accommodation. See our website for all the details and prices for single accommodation, etc. These tours are always fully booked, so act now if you're interested.

If you prefer a less organized approach, take a look at the ''Cape Breton Challenge''.  We've mapped out a route that circumnavigates the outer edge of the island. We've organized it as a virtual tour that you can track on our web site once you've signed up. You can do the legs in any order on your own time and in your own way. If you want company, some of the legs will be on our ride schedule and you can join the group if you wish.

We're hoping that riders will post photos, tips, stories to the Challenge website and everyone will be able to take advantage of the experience.
