ISSUE 19 :: Monumental :: WHAT'S UP :: WORTH A READ :: ROUND-UP :: ON TREND

Dare I say, it's been a monumental couple of weeks since the last issue of The Scrap Basket. I celebrated my 5 year blogiversary, hit the milestone of 5000 followers on Instagram, and this issue of the newsletter is going to press with over 900 subscribers. All of that is a tad overwhelming, but I want to thank you much for being out there and following along. "Thank you" doesn't seem like much, but trust me. It's heartfelt.

WHAT'S UP

Two new block tutorials are up on the blog! X Marks the Improv, measuring 12" x 24", was used in a recent FAITH Circle quilt, part of do.Good Stitches. Here's a link to see the finished quilt.
Striped Quarter Log Cabin is FAITH Circle's block for February, and measures 12 1/2".

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

About the time I chose hearts as the round-up for this issue, I began to see them everywhere! So in addition to the sweet quilts I'm sharing here, you'll find lots more in my pin board, Hearts.

First up though, is the True Love Mini Quilt by Megan/Canoe Ridge Creations. As a bonus in her Fresh Mini Quilt Club, this heart pattern was offered free on Craftsy and measures 18" square. [canoeridgecreations]
Adrianne/On the Windy Side used 2.5" squares to create her Atria, following the Pixelated heart quilt tutorial by Blue Elephant Stitches. Personally, I love that she used a scrappy mix of fabrics for both the heart and the background.

A true mini, Straight to the Heart Quilt Block by Jennie/Clover & Violet measures just over 5" square and not only includes some unexpected flying geese, but is accented by a bit of hand-stitching. [cloverandviolet]
The patchwork Pixel Heart Quilt pattern by Kelly/jeli quilts is also found on Craftsy and creates a unique look due to the placement of its squares. [jeliquilts]
Pixelated Heart by Jennie/Jennie's Threads has such a fun and happy vibe, with its mix of rainbowy solids and prints. [jenniesthreads]
Sarah/[sleinwand] got such a distinctive look for her Pixelated Heart, with her use of neutrals and black for the background. Her quilt was made using a free pattern on the Robert Kaufman website.
And finally, a quilt I actually had a hand in, HeartBEEts a baby quilt made by the Bee Sewcial bee for member Marci/Marci Girl Designs when her daughter was born. The group was all asked to submit heart blocks to Stephanie/Spontaneous Threads, who pieced the quilt top (top photo). I pieced the back (bottom photo), and Leanne/she can quilt quilted and bound it. Even though there's no pattern for this quilt, I thought all the different hearts might give you even more ideas.

ON TREND

The Mighty Lucky Quilting Club from Lucky Spool seems off to an energetic start! Folks in my neck of the woods are especially excited to see fellow Seattle Modern Quilt Guild member Season Evans as this month's quilt designer! I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing from Season on Crafty Planner's latest podcast as well as in the interview,
Quilts are Getting a Serious Cool Makeover on Lonny, and I have no doubt you'll be as inspired by Season's work as we are.

P.S. Every now and then, it seems I happen across several new-to-me people to follow or hashtags to explore in a short time span. That took place again this last week. Check out suzyquilts on Instagram, the blog by Sarah/smiles too loudly and a couple of hashtags:
#husbandsholdingquilts and #owensoliviafridayfind. I found all enjoyable places to be, and I hope you do too.
