Planting Seeds: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Christian Education

Planting Seeds: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in Christian EducationFPDS opened 50 years ago with a mission that began in 1965 and continues today: believing that children are a heritage from the Lord, we strive to plant seeds of Christlikeness in the hearts of children.

A metaphor of this mission was displayed in 80 tiny pine cones, delivered to every single faculty and staff member individually by sixth grade students. The pine cones arrived with notes of blessings – cards written by these sixth graders sharing testimonies of what FPDS has meant to them and expressing gratitude to each teacher for his or her service to the Lord.

The idea was developed by Carolyn White, FPDS sixth grade math teacher for 43 years. She explained the metaphor in her faculty meeting devotional a few days before the pine cones were revealed.     (Read full article...)

Teacher Spotlight: Megan Bell

Megan BellLast January, Third Grade Teacher Megan Bell received an email from her music director at Crossgates Baptist Church with details inviting members to consider an upcoming music mission trip to *Asia. (*Because of security reasons, specific locations cannot be mentioned.)

“I immediately thought no at first – I couldn’t leave my students and my family and go so far away,” she said. “But then I thought ‘I need to pray about this like the email said to do.’ That following Sunday, our choir sang a song titled “Oceans” that included the words ‘In oceans deep, my faith will stand.’ As I was singing those words, I got very emotional. I knew I had to have the faith that he was going to care of me. I had to have faith and trust. I knew He wanted me to go to Asia.”     (Read full article...)
