From the President's Boat
Our North Metro Annual All You Can Eat Fish Fry February 13th Banquet is just days away serving the great fried fish prepared in the custom deep fryer built by Greg at the VFW for our event. Our attendance pre-registrations are down this year. This is our MAIN FUND RAISER for the year so it is very important that you let your friends, family and others know to come out and support all of us. The Coon Rapids VFW has remodeled the main the hall for us. The hall has a fresh bright look, new round tables and more that you will enjoy. We had the stage re-carpeted in appreciation of the VFW’s ongoing support of providing us with free space for our Monthly Members Meetings, Board Meetings, Annual Banquet and other events such as the Rod Building Classes. The Keg Kup is included again as part of the pre-purchased ticket packages or for $10 at the door, we have added more games and a variety of new types of prizes such as 50 caliber muzzle loader, walleye and ice fishing rods, Tree Stand and Hunting Blind and more!
We need your help to run the Banquet. We are breaking things up into one hour duty increments so all of members can enjoy the event. We need volunteers! Please sign up in advance or at the door on February 13th.
The 2015 Members only Contest winners can pick up their Awards at the Banquet (Top 3 in each category and the largest fish of the month). We won’t be mailing any awards out due to the expense.
We all have had people we know and love pass away or that have gotten seriously health issues in 2015. I personally lost my younger brother (55) on Christmas Eve, Jim Shannon passed away the day before Thanksgiving, member Curtis Wilcox 15 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. It is all a reminder that we need to cherish the time we have with those special friends and loved ones. Time spent in boat fishing for anything including Muskies has always been a quality unique way to build bonds, friendships and show the love for our family members. Try to take advantage of every opportunity you have in 2016 to make it happen because “Life is Too Short! “.
March 12th is the Muskies Inc. 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner at the Sheraton West (next to Ridgedale) put on by the North Metro and Twin Cities Chapters. There will history displays, dinner, games, raffles, silent auction and more. We need your help to put on this event. Please contact me if you can help. You can register for the dinner at muskiesinc.org/anniversary. Sunday thru Tuesday March 13th - 15th is the Hugh Becker Muskies Symposium bringing in fisheries specialists and scientists from around the world to present 65 papers on Muskellunge. Please consider attending. More information can be found at muskiesinc.org.
I want to again Thank members Chris Cochran, Jason Espedal and Steve Bates for stepping up and joining the Board. The more people involved the more we can accomplish and the easier it is for everyone involved.
Note that there isn’t NMMI Members Meetings scheduled in February and March due to the NMMI Banquet and the Muskies Inc. 50th Anniversary Celebrations. In April we resume with Muskie Guide Timmy Peterzen and May we have our annual Thorne Brothers Poolside Lure Demonstration meeting.
Mark your calendars for Saturday April 16th for the North Metro Rod building Class at the Coon Rapids VFW led by Chapter Member Ray Connoy. More details will be forthcoming but you can build any rod from ice fishing to a Muskie rod.
Please contact any Board Member if you can help with the Chapter, the Banquet and the 50th Anniversary MI Celebration or any of our events.

2016 June Jam
Preparations are underway for the 2016 June Jam tournament. Tournament dates will be: Pre-tournament sign in Friday June 17th at Wilkin’s Bar and resort on Bone Lake; fishing hours 5AM to 9PM Saturday and 5AM to Noon Sunday, Jun 18th and 19st with the awards ceremony at Wilkin’s starting at 1 PM on Sunday. Those of you who have fished the tournament know how much fun it can be. The two day format is different from most tournaments and adds a lot to the experience. Eight lakes in Polk County Wisconsin can be fished. Results of previous tournaments are available on the North Metro website. If you’ve fished this before joins us again. If you’ve never fished it, give it a try. The two day format really lets you test your skills.
This year’s June Jam flyer, rules and entry forms will be attached available on our website in early March and mailed to previous participants in mid to late March. . Major sponsors this year are Blue Ribbon Bait and Tackle, Red Wing Lodge, Fudally Tackle, Phantom Lures, Pro Label, and Wood’n Wildlife.
Keep an eye on our website or you can contact me through the NMMI website with any questions.

Red Wing Lodge Outing
August 6-13, 2016
Sabaskong Bay
Lake of the Woods
Gift Idea: Package up an Opportunity w/ Over 13,000 Muskie Releases
Last month I asked you to consider this question: Do you need more opportunity or more baits, more opportunity or more tools for catching that big Muskie? Big fish opportunity is awaiting you at Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, Canada. The resource and the big fish culture that has developed over the years at Red Wing can be captured in good part with the following single stat: 13,000 Muskie releases!
With Valentine’s Day coming into view, how about this for a Valentine Gift?
Package up big fish Opportunity with a reservation for the annual August Muskie Inc. Outing to Red Wing Lodge. This opportunity has been provided for years by the cooperative support of Mike and Anne Bartlett of Red Wing Lodge and our two local Muskie Inc. chapters. The annual Muskie Inc. trip to Red Wing Lodge on Sabaskong Bay, Lake of the Woods, is a great choice for either that first Canadian trip or for the veteran’s extra trip. The convenience of a drive-in camp with the privacy you would expect on an island.
Dates for this year’s outing: August 6-13, 2016. Save your surprises for Muskie action, you don’t need them at base camp. Red Wing Lodge offers a resort base that has been family owned and operated for 50 years, is clean and comfortable, where everything works. The Bartlett family has hosted Muskie Inc. outings for years with personal and friendly service, so they understand what Muskie people need and like. Red Wing Lodge is a nine-time Chapter Challenge headquarters, in ’83, ’86, ’93, ’97, ’03, ’04, ’11, ’12 and again in 2014. Check out the Muskie information, including the Red Wing Lodge Hall of Fame, as well as the first live cam in Morson, at www.redwinglodge.net
Cost per person in housekeeping cabins remains at $350 (US Funds) for 2016, just $50.00 per day for big-time Canadian Muskie fishing.
Included in the full value of the 2016 Muskie Inc. trip:
* Free Dockage ($72 value), Free Launch (both ways, $25 value)
* Free Dinner one night, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* One Free Trip, given away in drawing, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* Free Wireless Internet Service throughout the Resort
* Free Daily Bag of Ice; door prizes
Reservations require a $50 non-refundable deposit, made out to Red Wing Lodge. Deposits officially confirm reservation holds. First come, first served.
