Do you support professionalism in Construction?

If so, get certified and help us collectively raise the standard of professional practice within the construction industry. By becoming certified you help show others in and around the industry that you believe in and have a higher standard of professional practice.  By increasing our number of AC and CPCs in the industry we will continue to raise the professional standards for all.

The AIC has opened registration for it's Associate Constructor and Certified Professional Constructor Examinations.  New this year, the CPC exam will be completely Computer Based, given at hundreds of professional testing centers across the country.  The AC exam will continue to be paper/pencil based and given at our University Testing Sites.

Mr. Ethics - January 2016

Dear Mr. Ethics,

Our heavy highway construction department has been underperforming for years. The managing board has decided to remove the management team of that department.  What we can’t decide upon is whether to provide those individuals with severance packages or not.  Some believe providing a severance package to an underperforming team is unethical.  Some believe not providing a severance package is unethical.  I’m on the fence.  Can you give us some guidance?

Regards,
On the Fence

Dear Fence,

This is a question has been asked for years.  Many companies have settled the issue by developing a written procedure to follow when these situations arise.  I think a good code of conduct should include such a practice. Since it does not appear you have pre-set procedure in place my sense is that you need to evaluate if your situation involves a sudden malfeasance issues or a long term problem.  From the information provided it seems this has been a long term problem that you and the team have tried to turn around.  If that is the case my ethical inclination would be to provide a severance package.

Regards,
Mr. Ethics.

AIC State Representatives

The AIC State Representatives program has been established to help foster grassroots efforts between AIC Members within their respective states.  Rather than local chapters, these digital groups will be established with a State Representative coordinating activities and communications to members within that state.

A State Rep will serve as the liaison for AIC activities and communications.  This includes working with AIC National to maintain a database of members, AC and CPCs, Universities, and media outlets.  The State Rep will work with the Membership Committee to recruit and retain members, promote Certification and AIC Events.  The AIC National Vice President will serve as the liaison between State Reps and the AIC Board of Directors.  Each State Rep will serve a 2 year term, appointed by the AIC VP and approved by the Board of Directors.  States may have up to 3 Reps and will meet regularly as a whole.  Each State Rep is expected to attend the AIC Annual Forum where they will gather for a State of the AIC Meeting.

Interested in becoming an AIC State Rep?  Please contact AIC Executive Director Joe Sapp at joe@professionalconstructor.org to learn more.

Updated Associate Constructor Study Guide

The AIC is excited to share the release of the newest edition of the Associate Constructor Examination Study Guide.  This guide has been completely overhauled from cover to cover.  To better prepare AC exam candidates, the study guide has reduced its overall content, but focused on core areas of study within each knowledge area.  Along with new study content, the guide has updated practice questions and practice exam.  A Special Thanks to the AIC Educational Foundation for their support of this project and to Joe Burgett of Clemson University who was the lead Editor of this project.

Further exciting news is that a new online, self paced practice tool will be launched for the AC exam.  This new tool will be available for a fee and will include a self paced study course with practice quizzes.  This study course will be made available within the AIC University platform.

The new Study Guide is available as a PDF on the AIC Website by clicking here
