February: For the love of fashion

Welcome to February, one of the busiest months in the fashion industry. Consider the fact that we are kicking off the month with New York Fashion Week, Valentine's day, the Academy Awards on the 28th and the transition of spring merchandise into the stores have commenced. The excitement of an early spring began last week when Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow on groundhog day. Yes, we'll take it!
In looking ahead to February, One Style at a Time is excited to head back to NYFW for its fifth season. We are bringing you all the runway reporting directly from the tents so don't miss the updates and follow the
Instagram, Twitter and of course, the blog for the inside scoop. We are also looking forward to bringing you our picks for best dressed at the 2016 Grammy awards which will be live on February 15th. If you want to know when your favorite designers will be presenting their Fall/Winter '16 collections, click here to view the master schedule and mark your calendars! Note: Fashion month starts in New York and then heads to London, Milan and ends in Paris in March. Oh and speaking of March, make sure you check your inboxes next month. The blog will be in
full festive mode as we celebrate our fifth blogiversary. More details to come.

A bold red lip is always considered a classic shade any time of the year and spring 2016 will be no exception. A variety of red hues like candy apple, cherry and ruby are some of the colors that will be part of the big beauty trends this coming season. Wearing a red lip can really transform the mood of any woman and make her feel chic or like a true siren. To get a really flawless red rouge to glide right on, first make sure your lips are not dry or flaky. Winter can wreak havoc on the skin and lips, so maintenance is key. These days there are so many products available to help aid with chapped lips. We like the MAC Prep + Prime lip balm which helps to lightly moisturize and smooth before applying any color. Of course, a lip scrub is also a good option. You can opt to purchase one in a beauty shop or you can for an inexpensive and easy to make one with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen. Try these ideas for an at-home DIY lip scrub. Now once the lips are soft and ready it's time to choose a red lip color of choice. Some suggestions would be: Russian Red by MAC or Ruby Woo by MAC, Laura Mercier's Red Amour, Countess by Kat Von D. Don't be afraid to try the drugstore brands, many are long lasting and just as good in quality as the more expensive ones. Go for these: NYX Pure Red lip color  and L'Oreal Infallible in Ravishing Red.  Last week Marc Jacobs beauty introduced a new lip color named 'Charlotte', after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's 9 month old daughter. It will be part of his Le Marc lip creme collection and is exclusive to Harrod's. You can read all about it at WWD.com. So with Valentine's day just days away, why not treat yourself to an alluring new red lip color and get ready to make a va va va voom statement.

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.”
