Ash Wednesday coming. As disciples of Jesus, we are invited to the discipline of Lent—which includes self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love—so that we may acknowledge our need for God’s mercy and grace. Please join us in a week on Wednesday, February 10, as we begin the Lenten journey to the joyous celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection! We'll enjoy fellowship at the Soup Supper beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please bring your favorite soup to share, and bread will be furnished. Ash Wednesday worship will follow at 7:00 p.m. There will be no other activities on Ash Wednesday evening. A 30-minute Lenten evening worship services will be held the following Wednesdays of Lent beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Lenten Bible Study. During Lent, Taylor will be leading a Bible study on Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. We'll be focusing on different parts of the Old Testament and learning how we can relate these teachings to our daily lives. Please bring a lunch dish to share and your questions!

Valentine's Day Crafts. Join Taylor after church on Sunday, February 14, to make Valentine's Day cards and crafts for our friends at Mid Cities Care Corp. We'll meet in the Education Building following the service from 11:30 to 12:30 for crafts, snacks and fun. All ages are welcome to participate—the more, the merrier!

2016 Grace Gathering. The ELCA Grace Gathering will be held in in New Orleans, August 10-13. To be held in partnership with the 2016 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, the Grace Gathering will bring people together from all across the ELCA. Participants will see the church in action, worship with churchwide assembly voting members, engage in experiential learning and attend a variety of workshops that will equip congregations and synods with tools to prepare for observances of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation next year. North Texas Senior Fest: Reformation Heroes—Then and Now. The North Texas SeniorFest 2016 will take place on February 27 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. All Lutherans age 50+ are invited to attend. Dr. Joel Heck, professor of theology at Concordia University Austin, will be the primary speaker. He will talk about the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther as we approach the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. In addition, participants may choose three of six workshops to attend dealing with various educational and inspirational topics. Registration is $25 per person. Additional information is available online. The event is sponsored by ALOA, an inter-Lutheran movement for adult ministry of the LCMS and ELCA.
